Performing Inspections on the Inspector Application

Use the Inspector Application to perform permit and license inspections in the field. Inspectors and inspection supervisors can review inspection tasks and details, complete checklists, and add comments and attachments according to their permissions. Only the inspector assigned to an inspection can result the inspection or add or update inspector, contractor, or owner signatures. If an inspection isn’t assigned to you, you can continue to contribute inspection information, but the result actions are disabled and signatures are available for viewing only.

The Inspector Application provides government field staff the ability to evaluate building code and other regulatory compliance using productivity tools on a mobile device and is accessible through your agency's implementation of Oracle Permitting and Licensing.

Select Inspector Application on the Permitting and Licensing home page to open the Inspector Application.

Getting Inspection Information with AI Assist

Your agency can configure the Inspection Assistant to help you retrieve information about permit and business license inspections through conversational questions. When configured for your role and page, AI Assist is available in these locations:

  • Inspection Tasks page: Ask about assigned inspections, scheduled or completed inspections, and a specific inspection.

  • Inspection overview panel: Ask questions using the inspection that you’re viewing as the context.

  • Inspection Result page: Review inspection information through questions before submitting results.

The assistant retrieves inspection details, comments, checklists, checklist items, and instructions. It can also retrieve information available from associated permit and business license application business objects. Responses depend on the data exposed by the assistant’s tools.

AI Assist appears only on pages where your agency has configured the assistant. You also need access to the published agent team and the relevant inspection and application records.

For page-specific instructions, see Viewing Inspection Tasks, Working with Inspection Details, and Submitting Inspection Results.

The conversational Inspection Assistant is separate from the checklist result summary generated on the Inspection Result page and the saved inspection history summary used for reinspections. Continue to use the Inspector Application controls to perform inspection actions and submit results.

For agency configuration information, see Configuring Templates and Documents in AI Agent Studio, Securing AI Agents and Agentic Apps, and Adding AI Agents to Application Pages.

The Inspector Application is displayed in the Redwood Experience. Users who previously used a retired inspection application are now redirected to the Inspector Application after signing in. Use the Inspector Application for permit and license inspections and the Code Officer Application for code enforcement inspections.

Note:

The classic mobile inspection applications are now retired and are no longer available from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

For more information about using the Inspector Application in offline mode, see Using Offline Mode for Inspections.
