Setting Up the Inspection Assistant

Use the Inspection Assistant to let inspectors ask questions about permit and business license inspections in the Inspector Application.

The Inspection Assistant retrieves inspection details, comments, checklists, checklist items, and instructions. It can also retrieve information about the permit or business license associated with an inspection. The information available in a response depends on the data exposed by the assistant’s inspection and application business objects.

The Inspection Assistant is delivered as an AI Agent Studio template and is added to the Inspector Application as a page-integrated agent. Complete setup for each offering and Inspector Application page where your agency wants to use the assistant.

Before You Begin

Before setting up the Inspection Assistant:

Setup Overview

To set up the Inspection Assistant:

  1. Enable AI functionality for each applicable offering.

  2. Configure AI Agent Studio and runtime security.

  3. Create an agent team from the Inspection Assistant template.

  4. Configure security for the agent team.

  5. Publish the agent team and record its agent team code.

  6. Add the agent to the applicable Inspector Application pages.

  7. Preview, test, and publish the page changes.

  8. Verify access with an inspector account.

Enabling AI Functionality

Enable AI functionality for each offering whose inspections will use the assistant.

  1. Go to Setup and Maintenance of Offerings.

  2. Select Permits or Business Licenses as the offering.

  3. Select Change Feature Opt In.

  4. Select the pencil icon in the Features column for Public Sector Permits or Public Sector Business Licenses.

  5. Select Enable for Enable AI Functionality for Permits or Enable AI Functionality for Business Licenses.

  6. Click Done.

  7. Repeat these steps for the other offering if inspectors will use the assistant for both permit and business license inspections.

Configuring Security

Configure both administrative and runtime access.

  • Administrators who create and publish the agent team need access to AI Agent Studio.

  • Inspectors need access to the Inspector Application, the applicable inspection records, and the published agent team.

  • Add a security rule to the agent team for the roles or permission groups that should use the assistant. Agent teams created from templates deny access by default unless security is configured.

  • Run Security Sync after changing applicable roles, permission groups, or custom role assignments.

See Securing AI Agents and Agentic Apps and Provide Access to Configure AI Agents in Oracle Permitting and Licensing for security setup instructions.

Creating the Inspection Assistant Agent Team

  1. On the Fusion Applications home page, go to Navigator > Tools > AI Agent Studio.

  2. On the Agent Studio page, filter the delivered templates by the PSC family.

  3. Locate the Inspection Assistant template.

  4. Select Use Template.

  5. Enter a name for the agency’s agent team.

  6. Review the generated agent team code.

  7. Configure security for the inspector roles or permission groups that will use the agent team.

  8. Save the agent team.

  9. Review and test the agent team in AI Agent Studio.

  10. Publish the agent team.

  11. Record the published agent team code. You must use this exact code when adding the assistant to an Inspector Application page.

Note:

No RAG document, schedule, email recipient, Business Rules Framework rule, or agency-provided reference document is required by the documented implementation.

Adding the Assistant to Inspector Application Pages

You can add the Inspection Assistant to these extensible Inspector Application pages:

  • Inspection Tasks page

  • Inspection overview panel in the inspection details

  • Inspection Result page

Configure each page separately.

  1. Sign in as an administrator who can edit pages in Visual Builder Studio.

  2. Navigate to the Inspector Application page where you want the AI Assist button to appear.

  3. Open the Settings and Actions menu and select Edit Page.

  4. Select Express Mode.

  5. Locate the AI agent constant for the page. On the Inspection Tasks page, locate Inspection Tasks Header Agent.

  6. Set showAgent to true.

  7. Replace the example agent team code with the exact code of the published Inspection Assistant agent team.

Retain the page’s required agentParameters. These parameters pass the Inspector Application context, such as the current inspection and inspector information, to the assistant.

Don’t copy parameters from another page. The parameters can differ among the Inspection Tasks, inspection overview, and Inspection Result pages.

Keep the parameter expression on a single uninterrupted line. An unintended line break can prevent the configuration from working.

  8. Save the override.

  9. Preview the page and verify that the AI Assist button appears.

  10. Test the assistant.

  11. Publish the page changes.

  12. Repeat these steps for each additional Inspector Application page where the assistant should appear.

If the preview window doesn’t open, allow pop-up windows for the site and preview the page again.

Verifying the Implementation

Verify the setup with inspector accounts that have access to the appropriate permit or business license inspections.

Confirm that:

  • The AI Assist button appears on each configured page.

  • A permit inspector can retrieve permitted inspection and permit application information.

  • A business license inspector can retrieve permitted inspection and business license application information.

  • The assistant receives the current inspection context from the inspection overview and Inspection Result pages.

  • Inspection dates and times use the agency’s local time zone and expected format.

  • Users without access to the agent team or underlying records can’t retrieve the information.

  • Responses are based on the inspection and application data available to the assistant.

The assistant can only return information exposed by its configured business objects and tools. It doesn’t retrieve application conditions or routing information unless support for those data sources is added separately.
