Honor Supersession Item Relationships

Welcome to the demo of the update 25A, Honor Supersession Item Relationships in Supply Chain Planning, Supply Planning. With this feature, you can honor supersession item relationships in unconstrained mode of Supply Plans. Your business need is to recommend planned orders for the latest revision of an item in the supersession chain only after existing on-hand and on-order inventory for the prior revisions of that item has been consumed by demand.

This will result in enhanced planning process, honoring supersession item relationships with effective allocation of existing supplies of prior revisions of the item to maintain optimum projected available balance for the items in the supersession chain.

In this demonstration, we'll show you how you can honor supersession relationships in your supply plan. I am on the Manage Item Relationships page in Product Hub, where you can define item supersession relationships. Supersession relationships are defined for items AI-SS-1001A, AI-SS-1001B, and AI-SS-1001C.

Run collect planning data by selecting Collect Item Relationships Reference data to collect the relationships to plan inputs.

I am now on the Supply Plan Options configuration page. You must provide technical parameter overrides as PlnItemRel=true in the Advanced Options pop-up dialog in the Supply tab of the plan option to enable item supersession planning in the supply plan. Run the plan after configuring the plan options.

After running the plan, I am now on the Item Relationships page in Plan Output. We can see supersession item relationships are included in the plan output for the items AI-SS-1001A, AI-SS-1001B, and AI-SS-1001C. Item AI-SS-1001B supersedes item AI-SS-1001A with rank 1, and item AI-SS-1001C supersedes item AI-SS-1001B with rank 2.

After running the plan, I am now on Supplies and Demands page in Plan Output. We can see the plan as honored supersession item relationships and allocated excess supply from the lower item or supplied item in the supersession relationship. For the forecast demand of 40 units for the item AI-SS-1001B on 16th of January 2030, plan has allocated its purchase order supply of 10 units. For the remaining 30 units of the demand, plan has allocated excess supply from the lower item, AI-SS1001A.

Plan has created a substitute supply with order number 105447119 on 16th of January, 2030, to allocate 30 units of on hand from supplied item, AI-SS-1001A. We can see that, for the substitute supply of item AI-SS-1001B for 30 units, plan has populated supplied item as AI-SS-1001A.

Continuing from the previous example, when we search for the order number 105447119 in Supplies and Demands page, we can see a set of substitute supply and substitute demand orders. Both of these orders are for 30 units and are linked to allocate 30 units of on hand.

Substitute demand of 30 units for item AI-SS-1001A is populated with requested item AI-SS-1001B, which is the higher item or the To item in the supersession item relationship. Substitute supply of 30 units for item AI-SS-1001B is populated with supplied item as AI-SS-1001A, which is the lower item or the From item in the supersession item relationships.

After running the plan, I am now on the pivot table, where we can see from the pivot table the supersession planning for the item AI-SS-1001B. The Substitute Supply Measure displays 28 units on 15th of January, 2030, and 38 units on 16th of January, 2030. Plan has included substitute supply measure in the total supply and projected available balance measure values. We can also see plan has maintained projected available balance for managing the safety stock levels for the higher item, AI-SS-1001B

After running the plan, I am now on the pivot table where we can see, for the higher item, AI-SS-1001C, the substitute supply measure displays 8 units on 15th of January, 2030, and 20 units on 16th of January 2030. Plan has included the substitute supply measure values in total supply and projected available balance measure values. We can also see the plan has maintained projected available balance for managing safety stock levels for the higher item, AI-SS-1001C.

In the pivot table, we can now see, for the lower item AI-SS-1001A, substitute demand measure value displays 36 units on 15th of January, 2030, and 58 units on 16th of January, 2030. The lower item, AI-SS-1001A, has allocated excess supplies to higher item AI-SS-1001B and as well as AI-SS-1001C.

As per our supersession item relationships, AI-SS-1001C item supersedes AI-SS-1001A with implied relationship. Since the item AI-SS-1001B supersedes item AI-SS-1001A and item AI-SS-1001C supersedes item AI-SS-1001B, plan has included substitute demand in the total demand measure and the projected available balance measure values. We can also see the plan has maintained the projected available balance for managing the safety-stock level for the lower item, AI-SS-1001A.

With this, we conclude this demonstration. Thank you for listening.
