Time Based Discounts

You can provide discounts that are valid for a limited duration after the purchase or service activation. However, these kinds of discounts can be availed any time and may not be season specific.

Some examples might include:

  • 20% off on Netflix for 'First 3 Months'
  • 15% off on Amazon Prime for 'First 2 Months' and 10% off from 'month 3 to month 6'

Based on the business context, Time Based Discounts (TBD) can be provided to an offer (Simple, Bundle and Package) for a specific time in the Design-Time. Catalog Browsing (TMF620) and Shopping Cart (TMF663) are enhanced to honor such discounts based on design-time set up in Launch Experience. After expiry of that time period, Time Based Discounts are automatically terminated, and subscriber is then charged the undiscounted price. TBDs can only apply to a recurring charge and is available to new and existing customers, anytime a Package configured with TBDs is purchased. TBD is generally applied when a new subscription is purchased. However, TBD also has impacts across the Product (Asset) life cycle, such as:

  • Package (Plan) Upgrade/Downgrade
  • Purchase add-ons
  • Package (Plan) Termination

Catalog Browsing (TMF620) and Shopping Cart (TMF663) are enhanced to provide such discounts based on the Design-Time set up of offers and discounts.

The business benefit of this feature is that discounts can be configured for a limited duration to attract new customers and existing customers to purchase new services.
