Matrix Manager Access to Employee Engagement

Matrix managers can now boost their engagement levels with their dotted-line reports, in addition to their direct reports. They can view engagement metrics, pulse scores, and check-in statuses of their dotted-line reports. They can also schedule check-ins, send celebrations, and provide requested and anytime feedback. 

On the Touchpoints Summary page, these sections will now include data related to a matrix manager’s dotted-line reports and direct reports:

  • Team – Average Interactions
  • Organization – Average Interactions
  • Team – Average Check-ins
  • Organization – Average Check-ins
  • Pulse score comparison chart
  • Completed and pending check-ins for the month 
  • Team pulse scores
  • Upcoming check-ins
  • Overdue check-ins

These metrics include data pertaining to multiple assignments that an employee may have with the selected matrix manager. They also include data for all dotted-line reports in every assignment that the matrix manager may have. 

Check-ins will include one-time and recurring Touchpoints check-ins as well as Performance check-ins. In the Upcoming check-ins section, the earliest check-in that’s coming up in the next 30 days will be displayed. If an employee has two check-ins for two different assignments with the same manager, the earliest of those check-ins will be displayed. This applies to recurring check-ins as well. 

Switch Team

When a matrix manager has dotted-line reports who are also matrix managers, the manager can switch to their dotted-line report’s team to view engagement metrics, pulse score data, and check-in statuses for that team. All matrix as well as direct reports’ data will be included for that team. A manager can drill down to the furthest level in the matrix or direct line hierarchy to view data related to the selected team.

Switch Between Teams

The organization hierarchy is displayed as breadcrumbs on the Switch team panel. 

Employee Listing and Detail Pages

On the Employees listing page, all dotted-line as well as direct reports of the selected matrix manager are displayed. For each employee, the role name pertaining to the assignment is also displayed. If an employee has multiple assignments, their name is repeated for each assignment, along with a different role name.

A manager can navigate to their dotted-line report’s detail page from here. From that page, they can perform all the tasks that they can do for their direct reports, such as:

  • Viewing the pulse score graph, if the dotted-line report has responded to the survey
  • Viewing past and future check-ins, which includes Performance as well as one-time and recurring Touchpoints check-ins
  • Viewing celebrations given to the dotted-line report
  • Viewing anytime and requested feedback, if they’re shared with the manager
  • Creating check-ins 
  • Sending celebrations and feedback
  • Viewing Insights topic recommendations and performance goals and adding them to the check-in

Matrix managers are vital for maintaining and improving employee engagement in complex organizational structures. These features are designed to improve a matrix manager's effectiveness by giving them a comprehensive view of their engagement and interaction details within their full organizational hierarchy that includes dotted-line and direct reports.
