RRSP Limit for the Year for Employee Self-Service
This feature provides additional functionality to support the Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) limit for an employee. Payroll professionals can already override the RRSP annual limit on the professional Tax Credit Information page. We are now providing the ability for the employee to override the limit themselves with a new RRSP Limit field on the employee self-service Tax Credit Information page.
As a reminder, the RRSP Limit defaults to the published CRA RRSP annual limit ($32,490 in 2025). However, if required, you may override the annual limit for the employee in certain cases. This may be required because Fusion Payroll does not have access to all factors required to calculate the RRSP deduction room. For example, you may need to override the annual limit in the following cases, where the employee has:
- Unused contribution room carried forward from previous years
- Multiple sources of earned income
- Contributed to RRSP outside of payroll deductions
- Pension adjustments affecting their limit
- To account for 18% of their previous year's earned income (including income from other sources like rent) up to the CRA annual RRSP limit
The CRA communicates to employees their annual RRSP deduction limit, via the Notice of Assessment (NOA). This amount is based on information received with their previous tax return and information on file. By providing this field to employees to populate and override the RRSP limit themselves, the responsibility is on the employee rather than the employer.
Additionally, the maximum all-time contribution value is the sum of all annual RRSP deduction limits to date. To ensure the all-time maximum value is not exceeded, we also introduced a validation on both the professional and employee self-service Tax Credit Information pages.
This feature now enables employees to populate the RRSP limit themselves, and in doing so provide confirmation of their RRSP deduction room in accordance with CRA guidelines.
