Configure Synonyms for Keyword Search

You can enhance the keyword search experience in Opportunity Marketplace by allowing users to use common synonyms and abbreviations. For example if users search using terms such as "Sr" results will be returned using the word "senior". Searching for "product owner" also returns "product manager" in the results.

For jobs, synonyms are checked against the title, description, skills, locations, qualifications, and responsibilities. For gigs, synonyms are checked against the title, description, skills, and locations.

Support for synonyms is automatically enabled, and a default list of synonyms is provided in Setup and Maintenance. To add your own synonyms, you can download, edit, and re-upload the list. The following languages are supported:

  • English
  • Spanish
  • French
  • Arabic
  • German

This enhancement makes it easier for users to find an opportunity they want to apply to, because more relevant search results will be returned.

Steps to Enable

Before you can use the feature:

  • Oracle Search must be enabled. For details see How do I enable Oracle Search for HCM?
  • Run the scheduled process called “ESS job to create index definition and perform initial ingest to OSCS”. Specify “fa-hcm-requisition” and "fa-hcm-gigs" in the Index Name to Re ingest field. You need to run the process 2 times with those different Index Name to Reingest parameters.

Note: If Oracle Search isn't enabled, or synonyms are disabled using profile option, then the Configure Synonyms section in Setup and Maintenance is enabled, but uploading a file won't have any effect.

  • Files must be zipped CSV-UTF8.

To enable this feature:

  1. Ensure that the ORA_IRC_OM_SEARCH_SYNONYMS_ENABLED profile option is enabled. For details see How do I enable a profile option?
  2. Add your own synonyms. For instructions see the sections called "Download the Synonym List" and "Upload the Synonym File" in Configure Synonyms for Candidate Experience Keyword Search.

Tips And Considerations

  1. Synonym support is only available only for jobs and gigs.
  2. Special characters in searches are ignored.
  3. Your synonyms file can't contain a "?" character.
  4. Open and inspect your files before uploading, especially if the file contains languages other than English. Check for special characters. If there are any, it means the file isn't saved correctly in a UTF-8 form
