Statutory Sickness Entitlement and Payment

Statutory sickness entitlements are processed and paid based on configurations prescribed by the legislation. Here's a brief overview of tasks and activities required for calculating and processing statutory payments:

Value Definitions 

Create the entitlement days for a specific legislative data group (LDG) using value definitions and range. Value definitions are predefined but you need define the range for the entitlements. 

  1. Go to My Client Groups -> Calculation Value Definitions.
  2. Select the appropriate LDG.
  3. Search for and select Ireland Statutory Sickness Entitlement.
  4. Create the range for each year with the relevant Flat Amount with the relevant start and end dates.

Certificate

  1. Create an absence certificate with the element classification Entitlement for the relevant LDG.
  2. Define the certificate attributes and set the status to Active.
  3. For certificate creation, set the trigger to On Demand.
  4. Select Mark as confirmed when created.
  5. Set the Entitlement Reevaluation Rule to the absence start date.

Absence Plan and Type

To be able to create a record for a sickness absence, you need to set up the sickness absence plan. Go to My Client Groups -> Absences -> Absence Definitions -> Absence Plans to create an absence plan and set the required parameters.

You also need to create the absence type for the absence plan using the Absence Type task.

Absence Elements

Create the sickness related elements using the element template.

Absence Balances

Create balances for absence payment visibility on the payslip and enter appropriate balance feeds to the Pay for SSP Average Earnings balance.

Considerations for Entitlements

  • The entitlements for sickness payments is based on the start and end dates of the medical certificate and not the absence start and end dates.
  • If the medical certificate doesn't cover the whole absence period, the application generates a certificate with no entitlements for the period not covered.
  • The absence isn't paid without a medical certificate.

Entitlement rules and payroll attributes are provided for the calculation of statutory sick leave and pay.

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
