Calculate APP for UK LGPS Child-Related Leave

From April 2026, Unpaid additional maternity leave, additional adoption leave and shared parental leave will become pensionable with costs borne by the employer.

Use Assumed Pensionable Pay (APP) to calculate employer contributions for eligible child-related unpaid leave periods.

UK LGPS employer contribution calculations now include APP for eligible additional unpaid maternity leave, additional unpaid adoption leave, and unpaid shared parental leave from April 1, 2026. Payroll administrators can verify employer contributions on APP payments when APP starts or ends during qualifying child-related absences.

Now you can

  • Calculate employer contributions on APP for additional maternity leave nil pay from week 27 through week 52 when the week-27 start date is on or after April 1, 2026.
  • Calculate employer contributions on APP for additional adoption leave nil pay from week 27 through week 52 when the week-27 start date is on or after April 1, 2026.
  • Calculate employer contributions on APP for unpaid shared parental leave when the nil-pay period start date is on or after April 1, 2026.
  • Exclude employee contributions for these APP periods.

Steps to enable and configure

No setup action is required if you create a new LGPS main pension element (the affected formula changes will be available automatically).
