Improvements to Alternate Location Determination During Picking
In busy warehouse environments, the system-directed pick location may not be an ideal location to pick at the moment of execution due to operational constraints. The existing alternate location determination feature helps you to choose another pick location using the “Ctrl-F: Alternate Location” hotkey when the system-directed location is not suitable.
To reduce order fulfilment delays and improve picking efficiency, we have enhanced the alternate location determination behavior. The system now displays all eligible locations with available inventory and when an eligible alternate pick location is not available, maintains inventory allocations while minimizing rework and task cancellations.
ENHANCED ALTERNATE LOCATION DETERMINATION BEHAVIOR
The “Ctrl-F: Alternate Location” hotkey behavior is now updated for the following picking mobile transactions:
- Mobile Pick Cart (rf.outbound.cwrfpickcart)
- Mobile Pack OBLPN (rf.outbound.cwrfpacklpn)
- Mobile Pack NC Active Order (rf.outbound.cwrfpackncactiveorder)
With this update, when you invoke Ctrl-F hotkey, the system presents eligible alternate locations with inventory in sequence. If no eligible alternate location exists, the system keeps the current allocation and task active, preventing unnecessary deallocation and task cancellation. This helps you to find alternative locations quickly and easily when the system-directed location is not ideal.
SEQUENTIAL RETRIEVAL OF ELIGIBLE ALTERNATE LOCATIONS
When you invoke the “Ctrl-F: Alternate Location” hotkey, the system now displays eligible locations one at a time in sequence. This provides a predictable, non-repeating progression, eliminating confusion about whether a location has already been seen.
Example:
Consider SKUA inventory is available in three locations: LOC1, LOC2, and LOC3.
During the transaction, the system displays the current eligible location (e.g., LOC1). Each subsequent “Ctrl-F: Alternate Location” hotkey invocation advances to the next eligible location (e.g., LOC2, then LOC3). When the last eligible location is reached, the system stays on that last location (LOC3) and does not loop back to the first location (LOC1).
NO ALTERNATE LOCATION EXISTS
When you invoke “Ctrl-F: Alternate Location” hotkey, if no valid alternate location is available (for example, a single allocated location and no other eligible inventory locations), the system now:
- Keeps the task active and remains at the current pick location so you can proceed once the location becomes serviceable.
- Does not deallocate inventory.
- Does not cancel the task.
