Prevent shipping and manifesting when order is locked

Idea Lab

This enhancement extends order-lock handling in Oracle Warehouse Management. A new setting on the order lock determines whether the lock should also prevent shipping. If a qualifying lock is applied to an order, Warehouse Management sets the order shipping block and retains it until all qualifying locks have been removed.

  • Supports order locks applied to created, partially allocated, and allocated orders.
  • Prevents warehouse shipping activity while the qualifying order lock remains in place.
  • Helps avoid shipment-confirmation failures when Order Management retains a lock after a related order-change request is not accepted by Warehouse Management.
  • Makes the setting available through the Order Lock REST API and Web Reports for visibility and reporting.

How it works

Workflow

When the applied lock is configured to apply a shipping block, WMS maintains the block while any such lock remains on the order.

For example, Order Management can apply an order lock while a credit review is pending or before reducing an order quantity. If that lock is configured to apply a shipping block, warehouse users cannot proceed with shipping or manifesting the order until the lock is removed. This keeps physical fulfillment from moving ahead of the order-management decision.

Behavior when multiple locks are present

Warehouse Management evaluates the remaining locks on the order before removing shipping protection. Removing one qualifying order lock clears the shipping block only when no other remaining order lock is configured to apply a shipping block. This helps preserve protection when more than one lock is active.

NOTE: If a shipping block was set directly on the order outside the order-lock process, removing an order lock can affect that flag when the block is set exclusively on the order. Review your lock and shipping-block processes before enabling this capability.

New and updated user interfaces, fields, and integrations

Item Customer-facing detail
Order Lock UI Updated with the new Apply Shipping Block field. The field is not displayed as a default column in the Order Lock UI.
Apply Shipping Block (apply_shipping_block_flag) New order-lock field. When set to Yes, applying that lock also applies shipping protection to the order.
Order shipping block (shipping_block_flag) Order-level flag maintained by Warehouse Management based on qualifying active locks.
Order Lock REST API The new Apply Shipping Block field is returned by the Get API for Order Lock.
Web Reports The new Apply Shipping Block field can be exposed for reporting.

Steps to enable and configure

To use this capability, configure the order locks that should prevent fulfillment from proceeding.

  1. Open the Order Lock UI and locate the order lock to be used for shipment protection.
  2. Add or expose the Apply Shipping Block field if it is not currently visible; it is not included as a default Order Lock UI column.
  3. Set Apply Shipping Block (apply_shipping_block_flag) to Yes for each lock that should prevent shipping and manifesting.
  4. Apply the configured order lock from Order Management through the existing integration. Warehouse Management sets the order shipping block when the qualifying lock is received.
  5. If using integrations or reports, update your Order Lock REST API and Web Reports mappings to include Apply Shipping Block as needed.
  6. Validate your operational process for direct use of the order shipping block before enabling, particularly where shipping blocks are set outside the order-lock process.
