Enable reuse of consumed/cancelled LPNs during Mobile Inbound Sorting

Idea Lab

Warehouse operators can now reuse existing carts or trolleys with a Cancelled or Consumed IBLPN status label during Mobile IB Sorting to LPN, avoiding the unnecessary creation of new LPNs and labels.

Reuse LPNs during inbound sorting

When executing Mobile IB Sorting with sort-inventory-to configured as LPN, users can now scan an inbound LPN (IBLPN) in Cancelled or Consumed status as the destination LPN.

When one of these LPNs is scanned, the system displays warning message 4825 – "LPN is in %s status. Do you want to proceed?" By default, the message is enabled and configured as a warning.

  • If the user accepts the warning, sorting proceeds using the scanned LPN number.
  • If the user rejects the warning, the system returns to the LPN prompt.
  • Administrators can disable the warning or configure it as an error to prevent reuse.

As an additional validation, a Consumed IBLPN cannot be reused when an active outbound LPN (OBLPN) already exists with the same container number. In this scenario, the system displays Error 47 – "Invalid LPN type." If the matching OBLPN is in Cancelled status, the LPN number can still be reused, consistent with existing behavior.

LPN and inventory updates

When a Cancelled or Consumed LPN is successfully reused, WMS preserves the historical LPN record while creating a new record for the current sorting activity. The original IBLPN's container number is updated by appending its container ID.

For example:

If the scanned container number is LPN00001 and its container ID is 145701, the original record is renamed to LPN00001-145701 and remains in its existing Cancelled or Consumed status. A new IBLPN record is then created as LPN00001, containing the sorted inventory. The new IBLPN is placed in Located status, with the sort location recorded as its current location.

Steps to enable and configure

To use this enhancement:

  1. Configure Mobile IB Sorting with the sort-inventory-to parameter set to LPN.
