Apply Renewal Uplift to Usage Charges upon Renewal
This feature enables renewal price adjustments to be applied to usage charges during subscription renewal. The source page states that today, usage charges — whether modeled as recurring charges or usage charges — are not considered for renewal price adjustments or for price adjustments carried forward from the source subscription.
To address this, the feature introduces a new checkbox, “Apply adjustment to usage charge,” at three levels:
- Renewal template
Renewal Template
- Subscription header
Subscription Header Renewal Section
- Subscription product
Subscription Product
What does this checkbox do:
- this checkbox is unchecked by default
- it is applicable only when price adjustment type is Markup or Markdown
- when checked, renewal whether manual or automatic will create a price adjustment for the usage charge during renewal
Business benefits are:
Consistent renewal pricing behavior
Customers can apply renewal uplift logic to usage charges the same way they do for non-usage renewable charges, avoiding mismatches between customer expectation and system outcome.
Better support for frozen-price usage scenarios
Since the issue specifically affects frozen charges that use stored subscription list price during usage rating, this feature prevents renewals from silently missing intended uplift on those lines.
Controlled adoption instead of forced behavior change
Because the new flag is defaulted to unchecked, customers only opt in where they actually want renewal adjustments on usage charges, reducing regression risk for existing implementations.
Steps to enable and configure
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips and considerations
- As advanced pricing terms/price escalation is also applicable for usage charges, you should test if this renewal uplift is defined correctly.
