Protect Subscription Charge Prices Ceiling Limits

Define optional ceiling prices for individual subscription charges. These limits protect the unit price when it changes because of a pricing term, an advanced pricing term, a manual charge adjustment, renewal, amendment, or subscription resumption.

When a calculated charge price falls outside the configured range, Oracle Subscription Management automatically adjusts it to the applicable ceiling. The adjustment is displayed in the price waterfall, providing visibility into how the final price was determined.

To configure price protection:

  1. Create or edit a subscription product while it is in Draft status.

  2. Open the Pricing tab and select the applicable charge.

  3. The optional value:

    • Ceiling Price: The maximum permitted price.

  4. Save and activate the subscription.

The values represent the price for one unit for one charge period. For coverage services, enter the values on the covered product’s Pricing tab rather than at the coverage level.

Example

A subscription has a monthly recurring charge with the following values:

Charge Values

Pricing attribute Amount
Current unit price $100
Ceiling price $110

Example for Ceiling Price

Pricing event Calculated price Final price Result
A pricing term increases the price by 20% $120 $110 Ceiling price limits the increase
A pricing term increases the price by 5% $105 $105 No limit is required
Renewal applies a 15% uplift $115 $110 Copied ceiling limits the renewal price

When a limit is applied, the difference appears as a price-protection adjustment in the price waterfall. For example, the first scenario displays a $10 reduction that changes the calculated price from $120 to the $110 ceiling.

  1. Protect customer pricing commitments by preventing charges from exceeding an agreed maximum.

  2. Apply consistent price controls across pricing adjustments, renewals, amendments, and resumed subscriptions.

  3. Reduce manual price reviews and corrections when pricing terms change charge amounts.

  4. Improve pricing transparency by displaying the price-protection adjustment in the price waterfall.

Tips and considerations

  1. Ceiling prices can be entered or changed only while the subscription product is in Draft status.

  2. Values are defined per unit and per charge period. Consider the charge quantity and pricing unit of measure when setting them.

  3. Pricing terms, advanced pricing terms, and manual charge adjustments honor the limit.

  4. Renewal copies the limits to the renewed charge and applies them to the renewal price adjustment.

  5. Amendment copies the values when the same charge continues on the amended product.

  6. Resuming a suspended subscription copies the values to the resumed product and applies them to subsequent pricing.

  7. Undo Close and Undo Amend restore the previous values and associated price-waterfall results.

  8. A specified total charge amount takes precedence over the ceiling price. The application informs the user that the limits are being ignored.

  9. For recurring charges with a specified total charge amount, the final billing period can fall outside the configured limits because of total-amount allocation.

  10. Direct bill-line adjustments, ad hoc bill lines, manually created credit memo lines, and manual bill lines added before activation aren’t constrained by this limit.

  11. Credit or negative bill lines generated by close, amendment, or suspension aren’t constrained by these limits.

  12. Usage charges and included warranties aren’t supported.

  13. For coverage and maintenance services, configure the limits at the covered-product charge level. They aren’t available at the coverage-level price.

  14. The limit isn't printed as invoice text.

  15. Renewals performed outside Subscription Management, such as upstream renewals in Order Management or Configure, Price, Quote applications, aren’t supported yet.

  16. Ceiling Price is supported through REST service.
