Improve Sequencing Decisions to Reduce Overall Changeover Times
In situations where a user-defined attribute sequence isn’t being used, the application looks ahead and pulls forward work order operations with identical grouping attribute value and schedules them together. This reduces unnecessary changeovers and improves throughput.
In Scheduling Organizations, Resource Parameters, specify the parameter Grouping Attribute for Changeover Reduction. Attributes assigned to the respective resource in Scheduling Organizations, Attributes, Resource Attributes can be selected.
New Resource Parameter
The attribute specified in Grouping Attribute for Changeover Reduction is the attribute that Production Scheduling uses to group operations with the same attribute value for changeover reduction. It works in conjunction with the advanced schedule option Look Ahead Window in Days. The Look Ahead Window in Days is the number of days that Production Scheduling scans into the future to identify operations with the same attribute value and tries to schedule them adjacently to reduce changeovers.
The New Advanced Schedule Option is Grouped with Two Previously Existing Ones
The following diagram shows a conceptual example of this behavior. The task labels A, B, C, D correspond to the attribute values of the respective Grouping Attribute for Changeover Reduction from the resource parameters. The black bars represent the changeovers.
The first representation shows an operation sequence without the new capability applied. Here, the changeovers are considered only locally, resulting in a total of 7 changeovers.
The second representation uses the new capability with a look ahead value of 1 day. In this case, the number of changeovers is reduced due to better grouping of operations.
Changeover Reduction Using Look Ahead Window
Note that this only applies when the user-defined attribute sequence functionality is not used.
