Calculate the Cost of Products After Assigning Phantom Subassembly Materials and Resources to Operations

If you're a manufacturing enterprise and want granular control and auditability over the components consumed as part of the phantom subassembly in production process, you can now cost the materials and resources consumed in the phantom subassembly with the correct operation.

  • The cost of phantom components and resources will be included in the operation of the parent assembly based on the operation sequence in the phantom work definition.
  • If an operation sequence specified in the phantom work definition doesn't exist in the parent assembly work definition, assign phantom components and resources to the work order operation where the phantom is assigned to in the work definition.

On the Rolled-up Costs page, you'll see the assignment of phantom components and resources to the operation as explained above. The Roll up Costs scheduled process will also calculate the costs of your products in the same sequence of operations. When you publish this cost, the product completion transactions will use this cost.

This feature ensures increased accuracy of configured products costs by including the components and resources in the correct work order operation.

Steps to enable and configure

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips and considerations

  • You will see this behavior if you maintain work definitions for phantom subassemblies and use one of the following values for the Phantom Operation Inheritance plant parameter:

    • Materials and Operations
    • Materials, Resources and Operations
  • If you use phantom subassemblies in multiple levels of the finished product's item structure, the Roll up Costs scheduled process will consistently assign the materials and resources to the operation honoring the plant parameter, till the lowest level of phantom.
