Respect minimum remaining shelf life material constraints in Order Promising
Oracle Global Order Promising evaluates minimum remaining shelf life and lot expiration constraints when promising sales orders for shelf life sensitive products. Global Order Promising retrieves the Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days and Anchor Date type defined in the minimum remaining shelf life rule and uses those values to determine whether supply is eligible for the order.
Global Order Promising applies minimum remaining shelf life calculations for Check Availability, Auto Schedule, and Schedule Sales Order calls. The promised order includes Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days, Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days Anchor Date Type, Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date, and Remaining Shelf Life Days.
To optimize inventory allocation, Global Order Promising uses lot expiration together with the first expired, first out prioritization, consuming eligible on hand lots with the earliest expiration date that is greater than or equal to the required minimum remaining shelf life date. Global Order Promising also uses expiration dates for planned order supplies through plan integration, as well as collected purchase order, transfer order, and work order supplies whenever expiration information is available.
For back-to-back ATP and transfer order supply recommendations, Global Order Promising publishes the Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date attribute to Oracle Supply Chain Orchestration enabling downstream processes to enforce the shelf life requirement. Scheduling Diagnostics and Pegging Properties display minimum remaining shelf life and supply expiration measures, providing greater transparency into how the order promise was calculated.
These capabilities improve order promising accuracy for products with customer specific freshness requirements. By ensuring that only eligible inventory is promised, organizations can reduce promises against expired or insufficiently fresh supply while improving visibility into shelf life decisions across order promising and downstream fulfillment.
With this feature, Global Order Promising considers user defined minimum remaining shelf life constraints while searching for available supplies during order promising. In addition, Global Order Promising respects lot expiration information for ATP supplies independent of minimum remaining shelf life considerations.
By supporting minimum remaining shelf life, Global Order Promising addresses a critical business requirement across a wide range of industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, retail, and food and beverage, where shelf life plays a key role in order fulfillment.
This capability also streamlines the enforcement of minimum remaining shelf life requirements through seamless integration with Oracle Fusion execution system. Global Order Promising passes minimum remaining shelf life inputs to downstream systems, such as Oracle Inventory, to select the most eligible supplies, and to Supply Chain Orchestration to support back-to-back ATP fulfillment and transfer order recommendations.

In the minimum remaining shelf life rule, you can define the number of days of remaining shelf life mandated by your customer’s business. You must also specify whether this number should be calculated from the scheduled ship date or scheduled arrival date. During order promising, Global Order Promising uses these conditions to identify and allocate the most appropriate supply while promising an order for the item.
The following attributes store these user-defined values:
- Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days: User-defined value based on the most granular assignment level applicable to an order.
- Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days Anchor Date type: Can be Ship or Arrival. This determines whether the minimum remaining shelf life days offset should be calculated from scheduled ship date or scheduled arrival date respectively.
After Global Order Promising successfully promises the order, both these attributes are preserved on the sales order and are available to downstream fulfillment processes, both these attributes are preserved on the sales order, once Global Order Promising promises the order.

During order promising process, Global Order Promising performs the following steps:
- Read the applicable minimum remaining shelf life rule.
- Retrieve Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days and Anchor Date Type.
- Calculate the offset Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Anchor Date derived through promising calculations. A fully open calendar is used for this calculation.
- Compare with Lot Expiration Date of potential supplies.
- Consider only the eligible supplies, where the calculated offset date is less than or equal to Lot Expiration Date.
- Return attributes to Oracle Order Management once the order is scheduled by Global Order Promising.
Global Order Promising applies the minimum remaining shelf life rule using the following matching logic:
- Perform an exact match based on the Item–Organization–Customer–Customer Site combination when ship from organization is stamped on the incoming sales order.
- If ship from organization is not present, Global Order Promising first determines the ship from organization and then performs an exact match for Item–Organization-Customer–Customer Site combination.
- If an exact match is not found, Global Order Promising follows the standard assignment level hierarchy to identify the most granular applicable assignment level.
The Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days and Anchor Date Type attributes are recalculated by Global Order Promising whenever an update is made to an unreserved sales order that results in changes to the following order attributes:
- Ship from Organization
- Category
- Demand Class (when used in sourcing rule assignments)
- Customer - Customer Site
- Region and Zone
In case of item substitution, the minimum remaining shelf life attributes of the primary item are published on the sales order line.
The attributes returned by Global Order Promising to Order Management include the following:
- Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days: Indicates the value derived from the minimum remaining shelf life rule and used during the order promising calculations.
- Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days Anchor Date Type: Indicates the anchor date used for the minimum remaining shelf life calculation. Valid value are ship or arrival, specifying whether the offset is calculated from the scheduled ship date or the scheduled arrival date.
- Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date: Indicates the number of shelf life days remaining from the scheduled ship date of the order.
On the Check Availability page for the sales order, the following attribute is displayed in addition to the attributes described above:
- Remaining Shelf Life Days: Indicates the number of shelf life days remaining from the anchor date to the lot expiration date of the supply. This value can be compared with the Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days value to verify that only eligible supplies have been selected. The Remaining Shelf Life Days value should be greater than or equal to Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days. If multiple supply lots with different expiration dates are used to fulfill the demand, the earliest lot expiration date is used to calculate the Remaining Shelf Life Days.
The following features are supported with minimum remaining shelf life:

- Plan integration with Oracle Fusion Supply Planning
Global Order Promising prioritizes eligible supplies in ascending order of their lot expiration dates, giving preference to supplies that expire sooner. A supply lot remains eligible through the end of its expiration date, provided it satisfies the applicable minimum remaining shelf life requirements.
Reservation impacts:
During the initial reservation process for workflows initiated through Supply Chain Orchestration or Order Management, a high level reservation is created. The reservation data collected at this stage includes the following details:
- Item
- Organization
- Quantity
- Expiration Date
At the time of picking in Oracle Fusion Cloud Inventory Management, the reservation information is updated with more detailed information, as follows:
- Item, Organization, Subinventory, Lot, Quantity, and Expiration Date for lot-controlled items
OR
- Item, Organization, Subinventory, Quantity, and Expiration Date for non-lot controlled items
Collections can process reservation information captured at either stage for both lot-controlled and non-lot controlled items. Once the reservation data is collected, Global Order Promising honors the reservation during the order promising process.
Back-to-back promising
Global Order Promising publishes minimum remaining shelf life attributes on the supply documents generated for ATP and transfer order supply recommendations. These are not supported for make and buy supply recommendations.
- ATP supply recommendation
Global Order Promising processes back-to-back orders by applying the same minimum remaining shelf life constraints used for standard sales orders. For example, if the expiration date of an available item lot does not satisfy the applicable minimum remaining shelf life rule, Global Order Promising excludes that lot from the promising process.
Global Order Promising returns the Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date value to Order Management, to be stamped on the sales order. In addition, Global Order Promising publishes it on the ATP supply recommendation to Supply Chain Orchestration, to be stamped on the new supply document.
- Transfer order recommendation
Global Order Promising applies the same minimum remaining shelf life constraints when generating transfer order recommendations for back-to-back orders. While evaluating available supplies at the upstream organization, Global Order Promising excludes any item lot whose expiration date does not satisfy the applicable minimum remaining shelf life rule.
Global Order Promising publishes the Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date value calculated for the upstream organization to Supply Chain Orchestration, where it is stamped on the newly created transfer order. This value represents the remaining shelf life calculated from the Scheduled Ship Date of the transfer order.
- Back-to-back change management
Once reservation data has been collected, Global Order Promising always honors the reservation, including for back-to-back orders, regardless of minimum remaining shelf life constraints.
When a back-to-back order is rescheduled, the original minimum remaining shelf life days from Ship Date value is retained on both the transfer order and ATP supply recommendation documents published to Supply Chain Orchestration.
Plan integration
Planned order supplies recommended by Oracle Supply Planning and provided as input to Global Order Promising include expiry date information. During the order promising process, Global Order Promising compares the planned order’s expiration date by applying the minimum remaining shelf life offset to determine supply eligibility. Only planned order supplies whose expiration date is on or after the calculated minimum remaining shelf life offset date are considered eligible for order promising.
Allocation support
Global Order Promising enforces minimum remaining shelf life constraints when assigning allocated supply to sales orders. Allocated supply targets are calculated based on the collected ATP supplies. During the order promising process, Global Order Promising applies the applicable minimum remaining shelf life constraints to ensure that only eligible allocated supplies are considered.
Scheduling Diagnostics and Pegging
Global Order Promising captures key minimum remaining shelf life attribute values in the Scheduling Diagnostics and Pegging displays. These attributes include:
- Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days
- Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days Anchor Date Type
- Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date
- Remaining Shelf Life Days
- Earliest Expiring Supply Date: Indicates the expiration date of the earliest supply used to fulfill the demand.
- Eligible Unexpired Supply: Indicates the eligible supply quantity available to promise, that obeys the minimum remaining shelf life or lot expiry constraints.
- Total Available Supply: Indicates the total supply quantity available to promise, without regard to minimum remaining shelf life or lot expiry constraints.
Example 1: On hand supply available with Request Type = Ship and Anchor Date Type = Ship
Consider the following scenario:
- System Date: January 2
- Pick and Pack Lead Time: 1 day
- Transit Time: 2 days

- Global Order Promising retrieves the applicable minimum remaining shelf life rule. Assume the rule returns Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days = 49 days and Anchor Date Type = Ship.
- The Order fulfillment Need by Date is January 26.
- Since on hand supply is available, GOP derives minimum remaining shelf life Date = January 26 + 49 days = March 16.

Supplies are considered eligible when the lot expiration date is greater than or equal to the calculated minimum remaining shelf life date.

Example 3: Supply Transfer from Upstream Organization, Request Type = Arrival and Anchor Date Type = Arrival
Consider the following scenario:
- Requested Arrival Date: January 26
- Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days: 49
- Anchor Date Type: Arrival
- System Date: January 2
- Requested Quantity: 100
- Pick and Pack Lead Time: 2 days
- Transit Time from ship from organization (M1) to customer site: 2 days
Assume the following conditions:
- No supply is available at the ship-from organization (M1); however, supply is available at upstream organizations.
- Transit Time from Upstream Organizations to M1: 1 day
- Post-Processing Lead Time: 3 days
- A five-day open calendar is used at M1 (Monday to Friday)
On hand supplies availability at upstream organizations as follows:

- The Supply Ship Date from organization M1 is calculated as January 22, considering the five-day open calendar at M1.
- Since on hand supply is not available at M1, GOP searches for supply at upstream organizations. The supply search is initiated on January 14, accounting for the following lead times:
- Transit time from upstream organizations to M1
- Post-processing lead time
- Pick and pack lead time
- On hand supply is available at the upstream organizations and is evaluated for eligibility.
- The minimum remaining shelf life date is calculated as January 26 + 49 days = March 16
Global Order Promising identifies eligible supplies as follows:

The Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date value stamped on the sales order is calculated as follows:
Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date = Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days + (Scheduled Arrival Date – Scheduled Ship Date)
= 49 days + (January 26 – January 22)
= 49 days + 4 days = 53 days
The Remaining Shelf Life Days value is calculated as follows:
Remaining Shelf Life Days = Lot 2 Expiration Date – Scheduled Arrival Date
= April 15 – January 26 = 79 days
For the Transfer Order (TO), the Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date is calculated as follows:
Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date = 53 days + (Scheduled Ship Date – Ship Date at M3)
= 53 days + (January 22 – January 14)
= 53 days + 8 days = 61 days
Lot expiration
Global Order Promising supports supply selection based on lot expiration constraints, independent of minimum remaining shelf life functionality. When the lot expiration feature is enabled, Global Order Promising excludes supplies from expired lots when fulfilling demand and prioritizes eligible supplies with the earliest expiration dates.

Lot expiration
Global Order Promising consumes supplies from an on hand lot if its expiration date is on or after the potential Schedule Arrival Date of the demand.
Lot expiration is evaluated at the end of the expiration date in the organization's local time. As a result, supplies remain available through the end of their expiration date and become unavailable starting on the next working day.
Among all eligible lots, Global Order Promising prioritizes supply consumption in ascending order of expiration date, consuming the eligible on hand lot with the earliest expiration date first.
When item substitution is configured, Global Order Promising can switch to a substitute item if the primary item's available supply expires before it can be used to fulfill the demand and the substitute item has an eligible lot with a later expiration date.
Allocation support
Global Order Promising respects lot expiration constraints with allocation of existing supplies.
If certain supply expires within the weekly allocation bucket, Global Order Promising continues to consider it as eligible supply for that weekly bucket and includes it in the supply allocation report. However, during order promising, Global Order Promising ensures that only supply that has not expired on the scheduled fulfillment date is used to satisfy demand.
To improve visibility into expired inventory, a new measure Total Weekly Expired Residual Supply is available in the Supply Allocation Report. This measure represents the total quantity of remaining supply that has expired for a given item–organization combination within each weekly allocation bucket.

The supply availability report is enhanced to display time-phased supply expiration details for an item-organization combination. To view these details, click Supply measure in the report. This opens a bottom drawer that displays the corresponding supply expiration information.
Note: Expired supply quantities are displayed on the day following the lot expiration date, because a lot remains eligible for order promising through the end of its expiration date.

Example 1: Lot Expiry Date for on hand supply of end item
Consider the following scenario:
- On hand supply consists of multiple lots, each with a different expiration date.
- Only supplies from non expired lots are eligible to fulfill demand.
- Global Order Promising prioritizes eligible lots in ascending order of their expiration dates, consuming the lot with the earliest expiration date first.
- Supplies from expired lots are not eligible and cannot be used to fulfill any demand

If you want to use the Respect Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Material Constraints in Order Promising feature, then you must opt in to Specify Minimum Remaining Shelf-Life for Perishable Items first. Specify Minimum Remaining Shelf-Life for Perishable Items feature is a temporary opt in that expires in Release 27B.

- Navigate to the Order Promising Options page.
- Select Respect Lot Expiration.

Tips and considerations
- GOP aggregates supply at the item-organization level. As a result, subinventory and lot information is not maintained for aggregated supply or reporting purposes.
- For back-to-back orders, GOP derives and publishes MRSL attributes for ATP and transfer order supply recommendations.
- MRSL attributes are not derived or published for back-to-back orders with Make or Buy supply recommendations.
- During rescheduling of back-to-back orders with ATP or Transfer Order recommendations, the Minimum Remaining Shelf Life Days from Ship Date attribute on the sales order line is not recalculated. To recalculate this attribute, the back-to-back order must first be unscheduled and then rescheduled.
- For supplies with no expiry date derived by GOP, it considers the supply to be eligible. GOP continues to derive the applicable MRSL attributes from the MRSL rule and promises the order using any eligible supply.
- When item substitution is configured, the MRSL attributes of the primary item are published on the sales order line.
- MRSL is not supported for ATO/PTO models.
- MRSL is not supported for dropship orders.
- MRSL is not supported for Source Based Promising in this update.
- GOP can enforce lot expiration constraints even when the MRSL feature is not enabled. In this case, GOP promises orders using only supplies whose lot expiration date is on or after the potential Scheduled Arrival Date of the order. When the MRSL feature is enabled, GOP always enforces both MRSL and lot expiration constraints during order promising.
