New Enterprise SaaS Additional Non-Production Environment Options

Customers can now choose between four (4) additional non-production environment shapes, allowing for better matching of environment type to intended use case.

The new non-production environment options are:

  • Additional Pre-Production Environment
    • Designed for: production volume activities such as pre-production staging, parallel testing and performance testing (including regular performance regression testing). 
    • Size: production size in terms of database storage as well as batch and online capacity.
  • Additional Functional Test Environment
    • Designed for: functional (including regular functional regression), system, integration, and user acceptance testing activities.  
    • Size: production sized in terms of database storage, and 1/3 of the production batch and online capacity (or a minimum development size environment capacity, whichever is larger).
  • Additional Training Environment
    • Designed for: end user training and product familiarization type activities
    • Size: development sized in terms of database storage and batch capacity, but with additional online capacity to support up to thirty (30) concurrent online users.
  • Additional Development Environment:
    • Designed for: development and unit testing activities only
    • Size: fixed, minimum development size

The above new additional non-production environment parts are commercially available as of March 14, 2025 are included in the Oracle Energy and Water Service Descriptions, and directly replace the existing parts to which many customers already subscribe.

The equivalence mapping between retired and new parts is as follows:

  • Oracle Utilities <SERVICE NAME>, Additional Test Environment > Additional Pre-Production Environment.  Both result in the same deployed environment type, such as full production size in terms of database storage, and batch/online capacity.
  • Oracle Utilities <SERVICE NAME>, Additional Development Environment > Additional Development Environment.  Both result in the same deployed environment type, such as a minimum sized development environment.

When interpreting existing contracts for Oracle Utilities Enterprise SaaS Cloud Services:

  • All existing, provisioned instances of the now retired "Oracle Utilities <SERVICE NAME>, Additional Development" parts are considered to be of the "Additional Development Non-Production Environment" type
  • All existing, provisioned instances of the now retired "Oracle Utilities <SERVICE NAME>, Additional Test" parts are considered to be of the "Additional Pre-Production Non-Production Environment" type.

The net-new (meaning not previously available) additional environment type options now available for subscription are:

  • Additional Functional Test Environment
  • Additional Training Environment

Customers are able to choose an environment type that more closely matches their intended use case (for that environment), resulting in the following benefits:

  • A wider range of cost effective options
  • Environment performance characteristics which are better aligned with the intended use case

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

  • Please refer to the Service Descriptions and documentation for additional information on environment sizing and usage limits.
  • The Enterprise SaaS base cloud services may include one Production, one Pre-Production and one Development environment, and the above options are additional to those environments
    • The general recommendation (based on Oracle's observation of our customer base) is that deployments typically only need one Pre-Production sized environment (which is included with the base service), and that only additional Functional Test environments are usually needed. 
    • Additional Pre-Production Environments are available if required but it should be noted that they will cost more than a Functional Test environment.
  • All additional environments listed above are purchased separately via additional subscription, and are fee-based services.  Please contact your sales representative for further information and pricing.
  • All renewals of additional environments must be for one of the four new options.  Renewals of now retired parts is not supported.
