Support for Component-Based Rating Engine (Restricted Capabilities)
Oracle Utilities Customer Cloud Service now supports the component-based rating engine (also supported in Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing Cloud Service) for a restricted set of use cases. This support is intended for existing Oracle Utilities on-premises implementations that already use the component-based rating engine and want to move their existing, configured scalar or volume-based rates to the cloud service. This capability is intended to support migration of a specific set of existing rates and is not intended for net-new rate configuration.
The component-based rating engine supports scalar or volume-based calculations only. Rates involving time-of-use (TOU) mapping and interval billing are not supported with the component-based rating engine.
All new rate configurations, and any rates requiring TOU mapping or interval billing, must be implemented using the rules-based rating engine.
NOTE: Oracle’s strategic direction is to invest in and enhance the rules-based rating engine. No new enhancements are planned for the component-based rating engine, and capability differences between the two engines will not be retrofitted to the component-based rating engine.
This aims to make it easier for on-premises customers to move to SaaS, by reducing the overall rate configuration effort or time by minimizing rework and avoiding full re-implementation of applicable component-based rates in the rules-based engine.
Steps to enable and configure
To enable and configure this feature, complete these steps:
- Remove the CR (Classic Rates) "Turned Off" option from the Module Configuration feature configuration.
- Add the Classic Based Rates Specific Services (CLASSIC_BASED_RATES) user group to the appropriate users.
- Create or update the Rates Engine Configuration master configuration and set the Rate Engine Implementation option to ‘Both’ or ‘Component-Based’.
Tips and considerations
All new rate configurations, and any rates requiring TOU mapping and/or interval billing, must be implemented using the rules-based rating engine.
