Expanded File Name Validation

Previously, strict validation was implemented for file names and extensions uploaded to the system through attachment upload or uploading files via the plug-in driven file upload process. Now this validation has been expanded to all batch file upload use cases. The system ensures that the file name is limited to the standard characters supported by UTF-8. Disallowed characters include Windows reserved/device names and illegal characters, including a trailing or leading dot, consecutive dots, and trailing spaces.

In addition, the file extension is validated against an allowlist. A separate feature allows you to define a custom file extension allowlist.

Ensuring that file names and extension names follow stricter validation ensures compatibility between different systems, prevents errors when sharing files across platforms, and maintains the integrity of system operations.

Steps to enable and configure

Be sure to review all your integrations that upload files into the system and confirm that the file name is valid per the system standards. Additionally, confirm that the file extension is defined in the allowlist. If not, follow the steps in the feature description where the custom allowlist is documented.
