Create a Data-Source Scoping Filter

A data-source filter selects among the data sources your organization has set up. In top-down scoping, which begins with all roles from all data sources selected, the filter excludes all roles from the data sources it doesn't select.

For bottom-up scoping, a data-source filter does the same, although in this case it's not needed. Bottom-up scoping requires access-point and entitlement filters that select roles from specified data sources, and other data sources are excluded simply because their roles are not selected. You may add a data-source filter as a "housekeeping" step, to remove values for unused data sources from list fields in which they would otherwise be displayed. But be careful: You can't submit your scoping filters if a data-source filter selects a data source from which no access-point or entitlement filter selects roles.

A data-source filter uses "matches any of" (or "matches none of") logic, so you would typically create a single filter and add to it the data sources that define your selection.

  1. Click the Add button in the Scoping Filters region. A row appears.

  2. In the Object field of that row, select Data Source.

  3. In an Attribute field, select Data Source Name.

  4. In a Condition field, select Matches any of or Matches none of to select data sources whose names match one of any number of values you select, or match none of them.

  5. In a Values field, select a data-source name. Then, for each data source you want to add to the filter, click an Add another value link and select from the list it presents.
