Can I search on untranslatable name fields that contain Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters?

Yes, using Adaptive Search, you can perform a search on untranslatable name fields such as Account Name or Contact Name that contain Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters.

You must change the parameter Enable CJK Language Detection for Non-Translatable Fields value from N to Y on the Parameters tab available in the Adaptive Search setup page. See How do I edit Adaptive Search parameters? for more information.

You can then follow these steps to enable specific text fields to support Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages:

  1. Sign in with a user having Application Implementation Consultant role.
  2. Go to the Configure Adaptive Search setup task.
  3. Go to Setup tab and then Advanced subtab.
  4. Select the required object.
  5. Enable the Enable CJK Language Support check box for the fields on which you want this support. You can select up to 5 fields per object.
  6. Do a Full or Partial Publish with the changed configuration.
