About Provisioning Roles

This topic explains role provisioning, and the difference between resource roles and job roles.

Role provisioning automates the provisioning and deprovisioning of roles, based on resource role assignment. You use job roles to provide access privileges. You can use Setup and Maintenance, Manage HCM Role Provisioning Rules task to map the job roles to the resource roles. Associating a resource role to a user enables the user to access the tasks and data based on the job roles assigned to the resource role.

Difference between Resource Roles and Job Roles

Resource roles are used to filter resources, generate reporting hierarchies, and define security policies. A resource role may be assigned to a resource without a user account, while a job role can only be provisioned to a resource who has a user account. Job roles are used to define the security privileges for a user account.
