One-Way Sync for Appointments

The sync engine syncs the appointments, contacts, and tasks between Microsoft 365 and Oracle Sales. Every time a user updates or deletes a meeting or an appointment in Sales, the changes are synchronized to Outlook.

Every time the sync runs, notifications about these updates are sent to invitees. To prevent Outlook from sending automatic emails to the invitees, you can set one-way sync for appointments. In one-way sync, changes made to appointments in Outlook are synced to Sales, but the changes made in Sales aren't synced back to the appointments in Outlook.

Impact of One-Way Sync

Here's the impact of one-way sync for appointments:

  • Your users can't use saved searches for appointments.

  • Conflicts are set to "server wins" and are read-only.

  • Meetings that exist only in Sales aren't synchronized to Outlook. Likewise, changes to meetings in Sales aren't reflected in Outlook.

  • Meetings created inside the side panel don't generate an equivalent Outlook meeting.

  • If a user resolves sync errors related to appointments from the Resolve Synchronization Errors page, those changes are reflected only in Sales.

  • To summarize, the sales application doesn't update or create any appointments in Outlook.

Change Appointments Sync to One-Way

Bidirectional sync is the default sync for appointments. However, you can change it to one-way. Here's how you change the sync pattern:

  1. In the Setup and Maintenance work area, use the Manage Microsoft 365 task:
    • Offering: Sales
    • Functional Area: Integrations
    • Task: Manage Microsoft 365
  2. On the Manage Microsoft 365 page, unselect the Enable Bi Directional Appointment Sync check box.

  3. Save your changes.
Note: If a recurring appointment contains a custom field, only the first instance of the appointment is synced with the Sales application. The custom field needs an object trigger or a field trigger. Use the object workflows to update the custom fields in the recurring appointment.
