Create Estimates
You can use the Estimates search page to create estimates.
To create an estimate from the Estimates search page:
- Click Create Estimates. This opens the Estimates page.

Enter or confirm the estimate title, business unit, and customer. The attribute and LOVs default as described in the following table:
Estimates
Required Fields Attribute Description Estimate Title (Required) Enter free text.
Estimate Type Choose estimate types such as Binding, Not to Exceed, or Non-Binding, which ultimately affects the way charges are handled during posting. - Binding: Charges must match the estimate. If the actual charges are less or more than the estimate, then the invoice amount equals the estimate value.
- Not-to-exceed: Charges can't exceed the estimate amount. If the actual amount is more than estimate, then the estimate amount is invoiced.
- Non-binding: Charges can be less or more than the estimate. The estimate is a guess, and the invoice amount equals the actual charge amount.
Document Type Contains LOV values from the ORA_RCL_SOURCE_DOC_TYPE lookup. The predefined values are:
- Service Work Order
- Service Request
- Return Material Authorization
- Third Party Work Order
- Third Party Service Request
Document Number For third party documents a tag value should be defined, such as EC_WO and EC_SR. Business Unit
(Required) Defaults from service work order, service request, RMA.
There's no default for third party work order or third party service request.
Customer (Required) Defaults from service work order or service request.
There's no default for third party work order or third party service request.
Account Filtered by customer party in Trading Community Architecture (TCA). Address Filtered by TCA account sites, with the usage bill-to filtered by account, and associated with an address/reference set that's tied to the business unit. Item
Set up in the Default Inventory Organization profile option (INV_DEFAULT_ORG_ID). -
For service work order: Item associated with a work order asset (installed base asset).

For service request: Item associated with a service request asset (installed base asset)
Description
Description of the item. Asset
Defaults if there's an associated asset in the service work order or service request. Service Address
Defaults from the ship-to party site that's associated with the work order or service request service address ID (HZ_Location), and the debrief header customer party.
Null if the work order or service request don't have a service address.
Expiration Date
Choose a future date. Purchase Order This is a free text field. If there's a purchase order associated with the service work order or service request, enter that value here. - Click Save and Continue to save the estimate header and continue adding estimate details.
- Click Add Estimate to add estimate details. This opens the
Add estimate drawer, so that you can add an estimate
line.
- Enter the activity, item, description, quantity, and UOM for the estimate line.
- Click Add (or Save and Add Another, to add another line). The line should display in the estimate.
- For each added estimate line, click the Amount link to review
the amount for the item, the applied subscription coverages, and subscriptions in
the Review Charge Amount drawer. In the Review
Charge Amount drawer, you can click the Edit
icon next to your price to add manual adjustments.Note: Clicking the Edit icon opens the Change estimate drawer, where you can make your changes. Click Update to confirm your changes and return to the Estimates details page.
- In the Estimate details page you can:
- Select Edit Details in the Actions list to open the
Edit estimates drawer, where you can also review
the header information, update the estimate status, provide a reason for the
status update, and change other attributes. Note: The values in the Status and Reason LOVs come from the ORA_RCL_ESTIMATE_STATUS and ORA_RCL_REASON_STATUS lookups.
- Select Create New Version in the Actions list to create a new version of an estimate. A copy of the previous estimate is created, but with two differences, a version number incremented by 1, and a status of Draft. You can change the new estimate version as needed.
- Select Generate PDF in the Actions list to generate a PDF copy of the estimate. You can copy, download, and print the PDF, which you can share with customers and any other interested party.
- Select Send Email in the Actions list to send a copy of the estimate to an interested party using email.
- Click the Create Estimate from Work Definition button
for an RMA to opens the Create Estimate from Work Definition drawer. This
drawer can be used to provide the maintenance organization and the work
definition. When you click create the estimate lines are automatically
created from the work definition.Note: The service activity in the estimate line is derived as follows:
- Using the service activity defined for the resource in the work definition.
- Using the activity that's mapped with the resource activity/service activity in the Manage Service Activity setup.
- For the material line, the service activity code is obtained from the RCL_DEF_DEPOT_SAC_ISSUE profile option.
- Select Edit Details in the Actions list to open the
Edit estimates drawer, where you can also review
the header information, update the estimate status, provide a reason for the
status update, and change other attributes.
- Click Done to return to the Estimates search page.
