Can the unit of measure (UOM) of the outside processing item be different than that of the end item?

No. The unit of measure (UOM) of the outside processing service item must be the same as that of the end item. The unit cost, list price of the outside processing service item must be calculated per unit of the end item (expressed in the primary unit of measure of the end item) and entered in the application.

Can I associate materials to a supplier operation? If yes, can they be planned and purchased based on demand in the OEM organization?

Yes. You can associate material or components to a supplier operation to model cases where the manufacturer sends components to the supplier in outside processing. You can record and track components that are consumed at the supplier operation. However, unlike partially finished assemblies, creating shipping documents to ship materials or components to the supplier isn't supported. Shipment of material or components need to be handled outside the application. Materials and components associated to a supplier operation can be planned like material and components associated to an in-house operation.

Can I associate resources to a supplier operation?

No. You can't associate resources to a supplier operation. However, you can manually report resource usages at the supplier operation for resources that are associated to the supplier operation's work center.

Can a supplier operation be the only operation on a work definition or a work order?

Yes. A supplier operation can be the only operation on a work definition or a work order. Also, it can be the first, intermediate, or the last operation on a work definition or a work order.

Is it mandatory to associate a supplier and supplier site to a supplier operation?

No. It's not mandatory to associate a supplier and supplier site to a supplier operation. However, if the immediate prior count point operation is also of the type "Supplier", then you must associate a supplier and supplier site to a supplier operation.
