Overview of Reservation of Materials for Maintenance Work Orders

If you want to maintain your maintenance schedule and on-time delivery, you must focus on material availability for maintenance work. Factories use various processes to ensure that material is available for maintenance activity to enable uninterrupted maintenance work. This process may be a material planning solution, such as Supply Chain Planning to make sure products are available based on projected demand. However, even with the best planning, maintenance managers sometimes need to guarantee material availability for a specific work order. To enable this, maintenance managers may need to reserve the materials to specific work orders before the actual start of maintenance work.

To enable this feature, you must enable the plant parameter Allow reservations for work order materials. You can access this feature using the Inventory Manager, Warehouse Manager, and Maintenance Manager job roles.

Here's what you can do for reservation of materials for work orders:

• Create Reservations: You can create reservations at the organization level (automatic reservation) or detailed (manual reservation) at subinventory, locator, lot, or serial level

• View Reservations: You can identify, view, and edit the reservation

• Honor Reservations: You can respect and fulfill reservations in all related processes

• Issue Reserved Materials: You can transact the reserved materials to the respective work order

• Undo Material Reservations: You can undo the reserved material manually from inventory or from the work order

• Analyze Material Reservations: You can report on the reservation quantities for the required and issued quantities

You can reserve materials for work orders and perform reservation for work order materials from inventory and maintenance.

Note: You can create, retrieve, update, and delete reservation for work order materials by using the inventory reservation user interface and the inventory reservation REST service.

Reserve Materials for Work Orders in Manufacturing and Inventory

In inventory, you can manage reservations for work order materials from inventory when you Query the work order and check the reservations, or launch the Create Reservations page and perform detailed reservations.

In maintenance, you can manage reservations for work order materials by using the Reserve Materials Manually action. You can reserve the on hand quantity using the scheduled process, or by using the Reserve Materials Manually action, launch the Create Reservations user interface in inventory and perform detailed reservations.

• You can avoid delay in product deliveries because of shortage or non-availability of the right materials to manufacture the product
