Set Up A Maintenance Organization

A maintenance organization is typically an inventory organization in which the maintenance and repair of the assets is carried out.

To set an organization as a maintenance organization, perform the following steps:

  1. On the Manage Inventory Organizations page, select an existing organization or create a new one from the Search Results region. Then, click the Manage Inventory Organization Parameters button to edit the organization settings.

  2. On the Manage Inventory Organization Parameters page, on the General tab, in the Additional Usages region, select the Organization performs maintenance activities check box. Now, the organization is set as a maintenance organization.

  3. On the Manage Inventory Organization Parameters page, on the Lot, Serial Number, and Packing Unit tab, in the Serial Number Generation region, select the Uniqueness, Generation and Starting Serial number attributes, as required. Serial control starts with defining how serial number control should perform at an organizational level. Next, you define item-specific serial controls at the item level. You can define additional serial attributes to capture attributes specific to certain industries and businesses. For more details, refer to the Lot and Serial Numbers chapter of the Using Inventory Management guide

  4. On the Functional Setup Manager, in the Maintenance subject area, set the plant parameters for a maintenance organization. For more details, refer to the Guidelines to Set Up Maintenance Plant Parameters topic in this guide.

  5. In the Functional Setup Manager, in the Maintenance subject area, define any organizational relationships for a maintenance organization. For more details, refer to the Set Up Maintenance Organization Relationships topic in this guide.

  6. In the Product Information Management work area, reference the maintenance organization in each inventory item that's used to create a maintainable asset. For more details, refer to the How You Setup Items in Product Information Management topic in this guide.

Note: It's important to understand the different settings for Serial Number Uniqueness at the organization and item level. The available options determine if serialized assets can have the same serial numbers for the same or different items, both within and across organizations
