Overview of Assignment and Validation on Changes

You can configure assignment and validation rules based on change header attributes including extensible flexfields.

A rule added to the master rule set is executed on creating or updating the change order, while a rule associated with the entry and exit criteria (on a change type) is executed when the change enters or exits from a change status.

Here are some recommendations for using rules on changes:

• You must use validation rules to configure the entry and exit criteria for a change status. Avoid adding validation rules to the master rule set.
• You must add assignment rules to the master rule set so that the rules are triggered when you create or update a change order.
• You must assess whether the rule set needs to be triggered on saving the change order, or as part of entry and exit criteria.
