Guidelines for Managing Sales Orders That Have Inventory Transactions

Use these guidelines to help you manage inventory transactions in Order Management.

Get the Values That You Need

You must specify the correct values on the order line. If you aren't sure whether they're correct, use this section to figure out which values you can use.

Identify Subinventories and Locators

You must specify the correct subinventory and locators on the order line.

  1. Make sure you have the privileges that you need to manage subinventories and locators.

  2. Go to the Setup and Maintenance work area, then go to the task.

    • Offering: Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials Management

    • Functional Area: Inventory Management

    • Task: Manage Subinventories and Locators

  3. Select your organization.

  4. On the Manage Subinventories page, notice the subinventories that display in the search results.

You can set the Subinventory attribute on the order line to any subinventory that displays on the Manage Subinventories page that has the Subinventory Type attribute set to Storage, and that has an end date that happens in the future or is empty.

  5. Select your subinventory.

  6. Click Manage Locators.

You can set the Locator attribute on the order line to any value that displays on the Manage Locators page, and that has an end date that happens in the future or is empty.

Identify Lots

You must specify the correct lot on the order line. Here's how you can identify the ones that you can use.

  1. Make sure you have the privileges that you need to manage inventory.

  2. Go to the Inventory Management work area.

  3. On the Inventory Management page, click Tasks > Manage Item Quantities.

  4. On the Manage Item Quantities page, search for your item.

You can set the Lot attribute on the order line to any lot where the Subinventory, Locator, and Revision in the search results match the values on the order line. If you're importing, then set the LotNumber attribute.

If you:

Select a Project on the Order Line? Lot on the Order Line
Yes You can select a project lot.

If you set up Inventory Management so it allows a project to have a common lot, then you can also select a common lot.

No You can select a common lot but not a project lot.

Identify Serial Numbers

You must specify the correct serial numbers on the order line.

Assume you create an order line with these values.

AS54999

FGI

Locator

ABC 1.1.1

Assume you use a serial, lot, or revision to fulfill item AS54999, and that you use a locator to fulfill the FGI (finished goods inventory) subinventory.

Here's how to identify the serial numbers that you can use on the order.

  1. Go to the Inventory Management work area.

  2. On the Inventory Management page, click Tasks > Manage Serial Numbers.

  3. On the Manage Serial Numbers page, search for the value.

    Attribute

  4. Examine the search results.

You can set the From Serial Number attribute and the To Serial Number attribute on the order line to any serial number that displays on the Manage Serial Numbers page where Subinventory, Locator, Lot, and Revision in the search results match the values for these attributes on the order line.

Assume you see these search results.

Assume the quantity on the order line is 2. Here are the values that you can set on the order line.

    Attribute

    Value

    From Serial Number

    AT341

    To Serial Number

    AT342

You can't use serial AT344 because the revision for AT344 is B, but the revision on the order line is A.

You can't use serial AT345 because the lot for AT345 is LL500, but the lot on the order line is LL020.

You can also specify a range of values. Assume the quantity on the order line is 3. Here are the values that you can set on the order line.

Attribute

Value

From Serial Number

AT341

To Serial Number

AT343

Here you have a range that includes AT341, AT342, and AT343. Inventory Management will pick all of the serials in the range when it fulfills the item.

If you specify a range, then make sure the search results contain all the values in the range. For example, if you set From Serial Number to AT341, and To Serial Number to AT343, then make sure the search results contains AT341, AT342, and AT343.

Learn about subinventories, locators, and lots. For details, see Considerations for Creating Material Statuses and Considerations for Creating Subinventories and Locators.

Search for Order Lines That Include Inventory Transactions

  1. Go to the Order Management work area.

  2. Click Tasks > Management Fulfillment Lines.

You can also use the Manage Fulfillment Line Exceptions page.

  3. Click Advanced Search, then add the Allow Inventory Transaction attribute and the Sent to Inventory attribute to the search.

Revise Sales Orders

Cancel or modify a sales order that has an inventory transaction just like you do with any other sales order. You can modify the quantity, customer details, lot and serial details, the warehouse, subinventory, and so on, or delete the lot and serial details up until Order Management sends the sales order to Inventory Management.

You can't send an order revision to Inventory Management.

Copy Sales Order

Copy a sales order that has an inventory transaction just like you do any other sales order. The copy also copies the Allow Inventory Transaction attribute.

Order Management won't copy your lot and serial details.

Use Attributes in Reporting

Use inventory transaction attributes in your Oracle Transaction Business Intelligence (OTBI) and Business Intelligence Cloud Connector (BICC) reports.

Go to the Fulfillment Lines Real Time subject area, then.

  • Use the Allow Inventory Transaction attribute and the Sent to Inventory attribute. Use them in the Fulfillment Lines General Details dimension.

  • Use the Quantity in Lot and Serial Details dimension.
