How You Create Maintenance Work Orders for Assets Across Organizations

Set up the Consider Organization Relationships When Creating Maintenance Work Orders parameter to create maintenance work orders across organizations with or without considering organization relationships.

Set Up the Consider Organization Relationships When Creating Maintenance Work Orders Parameter

  1. Go to the Manage Asset Maintenance Parameters task in the Setup and Maintenance work area.
  2. On the Manage Asset Maintenance Parameters page, click the Additional Parameters tab.

    The tab shows the Consider Organization Relationships When Creating Maintenance Work Orders parameter. By default, this parameter is set to Yes. When it's set to Yes, you create maintenance work orders across organizations with the organization relationship defined.

  3. To create maintenance work orders across organizations without relationships, change the value of the parameter to No.
  4. Save your changes.
Let's see the scenarios of creating maintenance work orders for organizations based on the value of the parameter:
  • Scenario 1: You have set the parameter to No to create maintenance work orders across organizations without relationships.
  • Scenario 2: You have set the parameter to Yes to create maintenance work orders across Organizations with the organization relationship defined.

Scenario 1: Create Maintenance Work Orders Across Organizations Without Relationships

You set the parameter value to No to create maintenance work orders across organizations. To create work orders:

  1. Navigate to Supply Chain Execution > Maintenance Management.
  2. On the Maintenance Management landing page, click the taskbar and select Manage Maintenance Work Orders.
  3. On the Maintenance Work Orders page, click the plus icon.

    The Create Maintenance Work Order popup appears.

  4. On the Create Maintenance Work Order popup, click the asset picker icon.

    The Search and Select: Asset popup appears.

  5. Search for the asset you created for an asset item. The asset you added isn't associated to any operating organization.
  6. On the Create Maintenance Work Order popup, add the other details such as work definition, type, subtype, start date, priority, and set a value for the Allow out of sequence completion check box.
  7. Save your changes.

    Your maintenance work order is created for an asset that's across organizations irrespective of organization relationships.

Scenario 2: Create Maintenance Work Orders Across Organizations with Organization Relationship Defined

To create maintenance work orders across organization with organization relationship defined, you set the parameter value to Yes. In addition to that, you need a reciprocal or operating organization to add as a related organization to your maintenance organization. Here's how you assign an operating or reciprocal organization to a maintenance organization:
  • Create two organizations so that you assign one of them as a reciprocal organization to the other one. See the Set up a maintenance organization topic to know more about how to create an organization.
  • Associate an asset item to the newly created maintenance organizations. See the Creating Single Items topic in the Using Product Data Management guide.
  • Using the Manage Maintenance Organization Relationships task of the Setup and Maitenance work area, search for one of the maintenance organizations you created and add the other one as a reciprocal organization to this one.

After that, create maintenance work orders:

  1. Navigate to Supply Chain Execution > Maintenance Management.
  2. On the Maintenance Management landing page, click the taskbar and select Manage Maintenance Work Order.
  3. Click the plus icon.

    The Create Maintenance Work Order popup appears.

  4. Click the asset picker icon.

    The Search and Select Asset popup appears.

  5. Search for the asset you created on asset item that's associated with both the maintenance organizations. In the Operating Organization column, you see the reciprocal organization you assigned to the maintenance organization.
  6. On the Create Maintenance Work Order popup, add the other details such as work definition, type, subtype, start date, priority, and set a value for the Allow out of sequence completion check box.
  7. Save your changes.

    Your maintenance work order is created for an asset across organizations with the organization relationship defined.
