Create an Internal Material Transfer Requisition (Sophisticated User)
This example shows a scenario where an experienced user is requesting an item that's stocked in inventory at a warehouse within their same organization. For example, the user is in an engineering department that orders parts out of internal inventory on regular basis.
This user can override many of the fields on a requisition line and has authority to source the material from warehouses outside the current organization when necessary to secure parts needed for prototypes.
This example has these process steps:
-
Enter requisition line
-
View and edit transfer order
-
Ship transfer order
-
Receive items
-
Review delivered requisition and transfer order
This example assumes that all setup steps are complete.
Enter Requisition Line
The first step in this example is to create the internal material transfer requisition line. Let's enter the requisition details on the Enter Requisition Line page that is accessed from the Purchase Requisitions work area..Since our user has the ability to source products from multiple warehouses, we can use the Select Supply Request page to review the availability of inventory at different warehouses prior to selecting one as the source of the internal material transfer.

Ship Transfer Order
Next, the transfer order is picked and shipped in Shipping. For this example, a pick wave is created using the autopick and autoship features. In an actual production environment, you have the choice to pick and ship as individual steps, pick and then automatically ship, automatically pick and manually ship, or to automatically pick and ship as is being done in this example.
When the order is shipped, the transfer order is updated as being shipped and the application generates a transfer order inventory transaction to record the fact that the item has been issued out of the source inventory.
If a receipt is not required, then this transaction is used by Costing to record both the issue and the expensed delivery at the destination organization. If a receipt is required, then an inbound shipment is created in Receiving allowing the item to be received and delivered by user-entered responses at the user location with either the Self-Service Receiving pages or the Warehouse Receiving pages.
In our example, the interorganization parameters between organizations have the Receipt Required option selected. So, the next step in this example is to use the Self-Service Receiving pages to receive and deliver the item.
Use the Warehouse Manager sign-on for this step.
-
From the Inventory Management work area, select Shipments from the Show Tasks section of the Task panel.
-
Select the Create Pick Wave task.
-
Click the Show More link.
-
On the Demand Selection tab, enter Transfer Order in the Order Type field.

-
Click the Options tab. Make sure that the Autoconfirm picks check box is selected and that an autoship ship confirm rule is entered in the Ship Confirm Rule field.
-
Click the Release Now button to initiate the pick wave process.
-
A Confirmation window displays a message with the number of generated pick slips and pick waves.
-
Click OK.
Receive Items
Once shipped, the requested item is delivered to the requester who uses Self-Service Receiving to acknowledge the receipt.Since the Receipt Required option was set on the interorganization parameters for the organization pair, the next step in the process flow is to receive the item once it's delivered to the requester. You can enter the receipt in either the Self-Service Receiving pages or the Warehouse Receiving pages. In this example, let's use the Self-Service Receiving pages.
In order to use the Self-Service Receiving pages to receive a requisition-sourced item, the Receipt Routing option in the interorganization parameters between the two organizations must be set to Direct. If the Receipt Routing option is set to Standard or Inspection, then you must use the Warehouse Receiving pages to receive the item.
Use the Requester sign-on to receive the transfer order from the Self-Service Receiving pages.

From the My Receipts work area, use the Search area to bring up your transfer order:
