Use Workforce Scheduling to Manage Shifts and Operator Assignments
Production supervisors can leverage Oracle Workforce Scheduling, which is a part of Oracle Cloud Human Capital Management (HCM), to view and manage the schedules and availability of operators assigned to their work centers. Supervisors can use this information to assign operators to workstations for work execution.
Manufacturing engineers can map a resource to a scheduling group, and map a work center to a department. The department must belong to the same location as that of the manufacturing plant. You can optionally map multiple work centers to a department and multiple resources to a scheduling group.
Aggregation of the total workloads and the ability to identify a person in a labor resource transaction lets you plan for staffing the work centers and track labor usage at a person level.
Set Up Workforce Structures in Oracle Human Capital Management
Departments and jobs with scheduling groups are essential to define worker assignments. The HCM administrator sets up these entities.
Use the Workforce Structures work area under My Client Groups to configure departments and jobs.
Use the Manage Departments task to create and manage departments. A department used for the scheduling of a manufacturing plant must share the same location as the plant.
Jobs are required to schedule workers. These jobs must be associated with scheduling
groups. Schedule administrators can create scheduling groups using the
Manage Common Lookups task with the
ORA_PER_SCHEDULING_GROUP
lookup type. You can configure jobs
under My Client groups > Workforce Structures > Jobs.
Persons with active assignments to the job and department are available for scheduling.
Refer to the following HCM documents for more information on Workforce Structures and Workforce Scheduling:
Set Up Workforce Scheduling in Oracle Human Capital Management
The scheduling administrator needs to complete the following Workforce Scheduling tasks in Oracle HCM:
- Set the default scheduling method to Scheduling Group.
Scheduling groups are required for this setup.
- Define enterprise shifts and schedule generation profiles.
- Set up employee work patterns.
Set the Default Scheduling Method:
Change the default scheduling method from Job to Scheduling Group. Run the REST commands as the user that has the Scheduling Administrator job:
- Run the
PATCH
command and replace the<URL>
with your environment URL:https://<URL>/hcmRestApi/resources/11.13.18.05/scheduleCommonSetups/100105258685623
. - Run the preceding
PATCH
command from a REST client with the following body:{"ParameterValue": "ORA_JOB_SCH_GROUP"}
.
Define the Enterprise Shifts and Schedule Generation Profiles:
You can manage enterprise shifts from My Client Groups > Workforce Scheduling > Shifts.
Enterprise shifts must correspond to the SCM facility shifts, which means that the start and end times of the shifts in SCM calendars must be the same as that of the shifts. If required, you can create new shifts for use in supply chain products.
A schedule generation profile must be defined for each calendar in SCM. Create a schedule generation profile from My Client Groups > Workforce Scheduling > Schedule Generation Profiles. Add the following details for the schedule generation profile:
Identify operating shifts, which correspond to same shift start and end times, as in the SCM calendar. The scheduling period, departments, and schedule managers are required. Production supervisors should be added as schedule managers for profiles that are defined for the scheduling of a manufacturing plant. This allows supervisors to use the scheduling functionality when managing shifts and workstation operators.
Set Up Employee Work Patterns:
Employees should have work patterns for Workforce Scheduling to assign them to shifts. The work pattern specifies the workdays and shifts for the employees. You can set work patterns from My Client Groups > Workforce Scheduling > Work Patterns.
Refer to the following HCM documents for more information on Workforce Structures and Workforce Scheduling:
Map Schedule Generation Profiles to SCM Calendars
The Manufacturing production calendar must map to a schedule generation profile in the workforce schedule. The schedules and shifts defined in SCM integrate with the calendars in HCM Workforce Scheduling. After completing the steps for calendar mapping, you can utilize the work center resource capacity to estimate the workloads required to schedule persons.
To edit facility schedules in SCM, use the Manage Facility Schedules task. Navigate to Setup and Maintenance. You can find the Manage Facility Schedules task in the Facilities functional area.
Click the facility schedule that corresponds to your plant calendar and select the Schedule Generation Profile to map the calendar to the schedule generation profile.
All shifts in a facility schedule are mapped to their equivalent shifts in the schedule generation profile if the start and end times for all shifts in the facility schedule map correctly to their HCM equivalent shifts. Once assigned, you cannot change the mapping.
You can use the Manage Shifts task in the Facilities functional area to verify that the manufacturing plant shifts are now associated with the corresponding HCM enterprise shifts.
Enable the Plant Parameter to Start Using Workforce Scheduling
To edit the manufacturing plant parameters, use the Manage Plant Parameters task. Navigate to Setup and Maintenance. You can find the Manage Plant Parameters task in the Manufacturing Master Data functional area.
Select Use HCM workforce scheduling to enable workforce scheduling for the manufacturing plant. After you enable this parameter:
- All labor resource instances are deactivated. This is an irreversible change. Moreover, you cannot add labor resource instances in this plant.
- Work Centers pages become available for mapping of departments.
- Resource pages become available for mapping of scheduling groups.
- The scheduled process to send workloads for scheduling is enabled.
Map Manufacturing Resources and Work Centers for Workforce Scheduling
The manufacturing engineer can map resources and work centers after the plant parameter for scheduling has been enabled. Use the Work Definition work area to map manufacturing resources and work centers.
To map a manufacturing resource to a scheduling group, click the Manufacturing Resources action from the Work Definition Overview page. From the Actions menu for a resource, select Edit. Select the Scheduling Group that corresponds to the resource and click Update.
The resource page for the manufacturing resource shows the list of the HCM persons that are part of the mapped scheduling group.
To map a manufacturing work center to a department, click the Manufacturing Work Centers action from the Work Definition Overview page. From the Actions menu for a work center, select Edit. Select the Department that corresponds to the work center and click Update.
The work center page for a work center includes the resources for the work center. You can select View Persons from the More Actions menu for a resource to view all HCM persons associated with the mapped department and scheduling group.
To define resource shift units, select View Details from the Actions menu for the work center. Under Resource Availability, select Edit Shift Units from the More Actions menu of a resource. Adjust the shift units and click Update. The shift units are used to calculate the workloads for schedule generation.
