Search According to Your Most Useful Attributes

Create a view on Order Management's redesigned pages that you can use to search for your item according to attributes that you specify.

Assume you want to allow your Order Entry Specialists to search according to your customer's item attributes on the New Sales Order page.

  1. Enable the feature:
    • Go to the Setup and Maintenance work area, select the Product Management offering, then click Change Feature Opt In.
    • Click the pencil in the Items row, then enable the Search Items Using the New User Interface feature.
  2. Create an index:
    • Go to the Product Information Management work area, then click Tasks > Configure Index.
    • On the Item page, click Actions > Enable Attribute Sets, and then enable the Order Management attribute set.
    • Click Actions > Rebuild.
  3. Set up security.
    • Go to the Setup and Maintenance work area, then click Tasks > Manage Item Classes.
    • Search for, then open the Root Item Class for editing.
    • On the Edit Item Class page, click Security, then add your user.

    • In the Order Entry Specialist (V1) Actions section, add these actions:
      Actions Data Level
      View Item Basic Item
      View Item Attribute Item
    • Click Save and Close, and then use the dialog that displays to pick a time when you want to run the scheduled process that will finish setting up your security.
  4. Configure the view.
    • Go to the Product Development work area (it's under Product Management), then click Tasks > Configure Views.
    • On the View Management page, click Item.
    • On the Views page, click Create, set the values, then click Save.

    • In the Add section, add attributes until you have this:

      Set these values to meet your own requirements:

      • Enable Display Columns when you want to display the attribute in its own column on the search page.
      • Enable Keyword Search when you want the search to look for the attribute's value.
      • Enable Filter Chip when you want to display a filter that you can click for the attribute on the search page.
    • Click Save.

Test Your Work

Assume you need to create an order for the AS54888 item:

  1. In another browser, use the New Sales Order page to create a sales order. See Should I Use Redesigned or Classic Pages?.
  2. On the New Sales Order page, enter AS54888 in the Item attribute, verify that the attribute displays the More Search Options link, then click it.
  3. Use the Search and Select dialog to filter your search according to the item's attributes, such as the item's Description or the Customer Item Number attribute.
