How You Add an Output as an Input Item to a Process Work Order
In some process industries, manufacturers sometimes need to rework a product or by-product back into the batch for further processing. Some processes may also take the product left over from one batch as the starting point for the next batch.
You can issue and complete the same item in a process manufacturing work order. However, you cannot plan a process manufacturing work order with a circular reference. We recommend that the work order should be created separately from the planning process and that separate work definitions be used for production execution and planning.
To add a circular reference for a work order operation, click Add on the Materials tab for the Work Order Redwood page. Select the output item as the Input for the operation sequence. Make sure to deselect the Include in Planning checkbox before clicking Create. You can now release and execute the work order.
You can ad hoc transact an output item as an input during a material issue transaction if you haven't added the output item as an input in the work order. The output item appears in the list of inputs and the Include in Planning checkbox is disabled for the item.
You can also add an input item as the output of a work order. When performing an ad hoc transaction for an input item as an output, you must deselect the Include in Planning checkbox for the work order operation item.
