Create a Work Definition for Process Manufacturing that Includes a Formula

You can leverage formulas when creating a process manufacturing work definition.

You can use a formula as the basis of assigning inputs and outputs to work definition operations. You can specify the suggested operation sequence to automatically assign the formula ingredients and products to work definition operations.

Using formulas to specify ingredients and products helps streamline the product development process and ensures integrity between the formula and recipe management.

The product engineer reviews the fomula in Product Management. The suggested operation sequence is specified for all products, co-products, by-products, and ingredients to facilitate automatic assignment to work definition operations. The absolute yield is a calculated field derived by multiplying the quantity with the yield. The absolute yield is defaulted as the batch quantity in the work definition.

To create a process manufacturing work definition based on a formula:

  1. From the Work Definition work area, select the Work Definitions or Recipes task or action.
  2. Select Create Recipe or Create Work Definition.
  3. Under Work Method, select Process Manufacturing.
  4. Specify a Process Name and specify the Primary Output.
The linked Formula Name is defaulted and the Structure Type is defaulted to Formula. The Batch Quantity is also fetched from the absolute yield of the primary output in the formula.
  5. Specify the Recipe or Work Definition name.
  6. Verify the details and click Create.
  7. Add your work definition operations.
  8. Select Operation Outputs.
The products in the formula are automatically assigned to the work definition operations based on the suggested operation sequence in the formula. If required, you can update the completion type defaulted from the formula. You can also use the Formula Products tab to assign products. When you specify the operation sequence, the system automatically chooses the output sequence.
  9. Select Operation Items.
The ingredients in the formula are automatically assigned to the work definition operations based on the suggested operation sequence in the formula. You can choose to update the supply type defaulted from the formula. You can also use the Formula Ingredients tab to assign ingredients. When you specify the operation sequence, the system automatically chooses the material sequence.
  10. Save and Close your work definition after you have completed the updates.
