Manage Item Structure Types

Use the Manage Item Structure Type Details task to create and maintain item structure types used when creating item structures. A structure type controls key structure behavior, including reference designators, lifecycle validation, quantity-related validation, and header attachment categories.

Create Item Structure Type

  1. In the Setup and Maintenance work area, navigate to the following:
    • Offering: Product Management

    • Functional Area: Structures

    • Task: Manage Item Structure Type Details

  2. Enter the required structure type information, including the internal name, description, and component item sequence increment.
  3. In the Structure Names section, create the structure name and specify its effective start date. Activate the structure name when it's ready for use.
  4. Configure validation and reference-designator settings as required.
  5. Select the attachment categories that users can apply to the structure header.
  6. Save the changes.

Configure Reference Designators

Use Reference Designator Range Indicator to specify whether reference designators represent a range. For example, P1, P2, P3, P4, ... P10 indicates a range from P1 through P10, with the individual reference designators separated by commas.

Enable the Quantity Related option when the number of reference designators must match the component quantity. For example, if a component quantity is 10, the reference designators should represent 10 component occurrences.

Configure Lifecycle Validation

Enable Lifecycle Validation for a structure name when the business requires a component item’s lifecycle phase to be the same as, or higher than, the parent item’s lifecycle phase. This validation helps prevent use of components that haven't reached the required lifecycle maturity.

Define Structure Header Attachments

In the Item Attachment Categories section, select the attachment categories applicable to the structure type. The selected categories help identify which categories users can use when adding attachments to the structure header. Configure only the categories that are appropriate for the business process.
