Use Global Work Definitions Across Multiple Organizations

Create a global work definition in an item master organization and assign it to child organizations enabled as manufacturing plants. You can selectively assign a global work definition to chosen child organizations or to all child organizations.

To assign a global work definition to child organizations, select the work definition in the item master organization from the Work Definitions page, and select the Assign Global Work Definition action. Next, select the target child organizations. A scheduled process is created to replicate the global work definition to the selected organizations.

After a global work definition is successfully assigned, a replicated work definition is created in the child organization. The Replicated attribute for the work definition indicates that it is linked to the global work definition in the item master organization. The replicated work definition is read-only except for these attributes: completion subinventory and locator, supply subinventory and locator, and supplier and supplier site for a supplier operation.

If you deselect the Replicated checkbox, the replicated work definition is unlinked from the global work definition and becomes an independent work definition. Any subsequent changes to the global work definition are no longer synced with the child organization. If you unlink a work definition for a child organization, you cannot link it again.

When you update a global work definition in the item master organization, you can choose the Sync Changes to Assigned Organizations to sync the updates to all replicated work definitions in child organizations. Both the Assign Global Work Definition and Sync Changes to Assigned Organizations actions use the Propagate Global Work Definitions scheduled process to propagate the changes to linked child organizations.

You can also use File-Based Data Import (FBDI) to assign and synchronize a global work definition with all child organizations. The Replicate Global Work Definition column in the work definition FBDI templates applies only to the item master organization. Specifying Yes when creating a new work definition in an item master organization creates the work definition as a global work definition and automatically assigns it to all child organizations. When updates are made to the global work definition, changes are synchronized to all child organizations regardless of the value specified for Replicate Global Work Definition.
