Orchestrate Refresh Measures Processes

Use the Orchestrate Refresh Measures Processes scheduled process to refresh data for collected or loaded measures in a plan without running it.

When to Use

These use cases are applicable to the scheduled process:

  • You can use the Orchestrate Refresh Measures Processes scheduled process to update a subset of measures for your demand, demand and supply, replenishment, sales and operations, or supply plan. You don't need to run the plan with current data as you normally would when you use the Collect Planning Data guided process or Load Planning Data from Flat Files scheduled process.
  • You can improve your planning efficiency by reducing the frequency of full plan runs for refreshing measure data.

For example, an enterprise has a weekly demand planning cycle. The enterprise needs to generate a baseline forecast once a week and get daily updates for shipments, bookings, and sales. Instead of running the plan daily, the enterprise can run the plan at the start of the week and then refresh the key, collected or loaded measures daily using the scheduled process.

  • You can use the scheduled process and retain data for forecasts and simulations that's lost when you run the plan.

For example, you can track updates to sales history while preserving the current forecast.

  • The scheduled process also recognizes changes to master data for demand plans and updates the measure data accordingly.

For example, an item might have been moved from one category to another and therefore now be in the plan scope. Or, a customer site might have been removed and therefore now be out of the plan scope. The measure data will be updated because of these changes for new, existing, or removed members.

  • You can define a job set to immediately run the Orchestrate Refresh Measures Processes scheduled process after you run the Load Planning Data from Flat Files scheduled process.

Privileges Required

  • Run Plan with Snapshot (MSC_RUN_PLAN_WITH_SNAPSHOT_PRIV)

Specifications

Review these specifications before setting up this scheduled process:

Specification Description
Job Type
  • As required
  • Scheduled
Frequency The frequency depends on your business requirement, but the scheduled process is normally run daily.
Time of Day Preferably, run the scheduled process after work hours.

Don't run the scheduled process while using the target plan.

Duration The duration depends on the plan size, number of measures in the measure catalog, and level at which measure data is collected or loaded.

For example, if measure data is collected or loaded at aggregate levels, then the scheduled process could take longer to disaggregate data to lower levels.

See the Troubleshooting section for tips on increasing performance.

Compatibility There should be only one instance of the scheduled process running at any time on the plan.

Parameters

Parameter Optional or Required Description Parameter Value Special Combinations Required Notes
Plan Required Select a plan name. Valid plan name. None
  • Plans that haven't run or are in the error status are unavailable for selection.
  • Demand plans that have planning level profiles are unavailable for selection.
  • Plans that have been copied with reference to a base plan but haven't yet been run while being refreshed with current data are unavailable for selection.
Measure Catalog Optional Select a measure catalog. Valid measure catalog. None Preferably, create and use a measure catalog with the measures that need to be refreshed. Otherwise, the measure catalog associated with the plan will be used, and performance will be affected because the plan measure catalog will contain several measures that aren't relevant to the scheduled process. Only measures that are stored, aren't calculated, and aren't editable are refreshed by the scheduled process.
Refresh Measure Data Incrementally Optional Select the plan members for refreshing measure data. For existing members only

For existing, new, or removed members

None
  • For existing members only: This value is the default. When this value is selected, new members and their measure data aren't added to the plan. Removed members and their measure data aren't deleted from the plan.

This value should be selected for demand and supply, replenishment, sales and operations, and supply plans. The value can be optionally selected for demand plans.

  • For existing, new, or removed members: When you select this value for a demand plan, the scheduled process performs a refresh of the plan's master data.
    • New members and the associated measure data are added to the plan.
    • Existing members that weren't within the plan scope but now are because of hierarchy changes are added to the plan along with the associated measure data.
    • Existing members that were earlier within the plan scope but now aren't because of hierarchy changes are removed from the plan along with the associated measure data.
    • Members that have been deleted are removed from the plan along with the associated measure data.

For information about how the measure data is refreshed, see Overview of Refreshing Collected or Loaded Measure Data Without Running the Plan.

Troubleshooting Information

  • When you're collecting or loading bookings history, in the measure catalog for the scheduled process, you need to include the Bookings History measure along with the measure that you selected for the profile option code named Default Bookings History Measure (MSC_DFLT_BOOKING_HIST_MEASURE). The Orchestrate Refresh Measures Processes scheduled process uses the measure specified as the profile value as the source for updating the Bookings History measure.

When you're collecting or loading shipments history, in the measure catalog for the scheduled process, you need to include the Shipments History measure along with the measure that you selected for the profile option code named Default Shipments History Measure (MSC_DFLT_SHIPMENT_HIST_MEASURE). The Orchestrate Refresh Measures Processes scheduled process uses the measure specified as the profile value as the source for updating the Shipments History measure.

  • To enable disaggregation of refreshed measure data, add the incrementalDisaggregate=true profile value to the SCP_PARAMETER_OVERRIDES profile option code at the site level. To improve the performance of data disaggregation for the plan, add the enableParallelDisaggMeasure=true profile value to the SCP_PARAMETER_OVERRIDES profile option code. After making these changes, run the plan with the Refresh with current data option selected in the Run plan drawer before you use the Orchestrate Refresh Measures Processes scheduled process.
  • When you add a measure to the measure catalog for your plan, you must first run the plan while refreshing it with current data before you can update the measure through the scheduled process.
  • You can use this scheduled process to update data for measures that you load using these file-based data import (FBDI) templates:
    • Supply Chain Planning Bookings History (ScpBookingHistoryImportTemplate.xlsm)
    • Supply Chain Planning Measures (ScpMeasuresImportTemplate.xlsm)
    • Supply Chain Planning Option Bookings History (ScpOptionBookingHistoryImportTemplate.xlsm)
    • Supply Chain Planning Option Shipments History (ScpOptionShipmentHistoryImportTemplate.xlsm)
    • Supply Chain Planning Shipments History (ScpShipmentHistoryImportTemplate.xlsm)
  • You can't use this scheduled process to update data for measures that you load using these import templates:
    • Supply Chain Planning External Forecasts (ScpExternalForecastImportTemplate.xlsm)
    • Supply Chain Planning Items (ScpItemImportTemplate.xlsm)
    • Supply Chain Planning Price Lists (ScpPriceListImportTemplate.xlsm)
    • Supply Chain Planning Sales Orders (ScpSalesOrderImportTemplate.xlsm)
  • You can use the process ID to search for the scheduled process result in the Scheduled Processes work area. For details, see the log file for the Refresh Collected Plan Measures child process within the Orchestrate Refresh Measures Processes scheduled process.

You can also view messages for the scheduled process in the Plan Messages table.

  • If there are issues, resolve them by running the plan with the Refresh with current data option selected in the Run plan drawer.
  • After every update of the software, run your plan while refreshing it with current data before you begin to use the Orchestrate Refresh Measures Processes scheduled process.
