Accessibility in Onboarding Transitions: Overview

The following content outlines the recommended practices and configurations customers should consider when setting up the Tasks tab in the career section for delivering candidates an experience aligned with accessibility standards.

If Onboarding (Transitions) is enabled in your organization and a Recruiting Center user starts a process for someone, the candidate or employee can view on the career section Tasks tab the tasks he or she has to perform. The tab is displayed in every career section to which the person has access.

Note that the recommended practices outlined below are not a certification of configurations. Customers are ultimately responsible for configuring and testing their Tasks tab to align it with accessibility requirements.

Oracle has published a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) document for the Oracle Taleo Enterprise Edition Onboarding (Transitions) product. For more information about Oracle’s VPATs, visit Product Status (VPATs) website.

Note: Customers are responsible for ensuring customizations (e.g., via custom branding, css, JS, etc) they (or third-parties) make to the product align to accessibility standards.

Accessibility Best Practices for Onboarding (Transitions)

Areas of the product that can be configured to align with accessibility standards include:

  • Branding

  • Theme

  • Tasks tab content

  • Onboarding content

  • Onboarding tasks

Branding

Branding allows you to customize the look and feel of the frame surrounding the area displaying the Tasks tab in the career section, that is the header, footer, and site navigation. You may need to consider adjusting the font size, font style, color contrast, text size, and layout of screen elements to make them larger and more prominent. Theme

Theme allows you to customize the overall look and feel of the Tasks tab in the career section. Consider using colors that provide the recommended contrast ratio. This includes the configuration of font colors and background colors. Align the colors of the theme so they match the element definition set in the branding file. Tasks Tab Content

You can adjust labels on the career section Tasks tab to provide clear directions to users. This includes labels on pages, tabs, links, and buttons. When creating or updating page content, consider accessibility guidelines for link purpose, headings, labels, use of color, and sensory characteristics to deliver a more accessible experience to users.

Onboarding Content

When you create content for Onboarding (Transitions) pages, make sure the content aligns with accessibility guidelines.

Tasks Tab Behaviors Aligned with Accessibility Guidelines

Below are behaviors of the Career Section Tasks tab aligned with accessibility guidelines. It does not include custom or referenced content.

  • Images: Images on the Tasks tab contain alternative text describing the image.

  • Headings, Titles, Labels: Headings, titles, and labels displayed to new hires during the onboarding process make the purpose of the screens clear to the users. They are also presented in a manner that help users understand the context of the page they are currently viewing.

  • Event Notification and Error Handling: Errors and notifications displayed to new hires during the onboarding process are presented using ARIA alerts.

  • Labels for Controls: Controls on the Tasks tab have labels that help users understand the controls being presented.

  • Instructions do not Rely on Sensory Characteristics: Instructions provided to new hires during the onboarding process do not rely on sensory characteristics such as shape and color.

  • Logical Reading Sequence: The content displayed to new hires during the onboarding process is presented in a logical manner. Assistive technology understands and presents content of these pages in a logical manner.

  • Logical Tab Order: Keyboard users can tab through elements in a logical order. These pages do not contain keyboard traps.

  • Skip Navigation Links: Keyboard users can skip to the main content of the onboarding process, allowing them to efficiently navigate through a page.

  • Keyboard: Users can navigate the Tasks tab without a mouse and access all relevant functionality using only the keyboard.

Tasks Tab Layout: Example

There are several different layouts that customers can create for the career section Tasks tab. Below is an example that can be used to deliver an accessible experience.

Content Pages

A content page contains rich media and text information, and it can be displayed to targeted groups of candidates or employees at appropriate times throughout an Onboarding (Transitions) process.

When creating content pages for the career section Tasks tab, make sure the content is created is an accessible manner, and the referenced content is accessible. This includes content such as images, links, titles, and text.

Forms

Forms in Onboarding (Transitions) allow new hires or other participants to provide specific information to the system by entering values into fields in an online form and then submitting it. A user-defined form is one or more pages of information containing standard and/or custom fields that can be used in specific tasks during the Onboarding (Transitions) process. These forms are compatible with assistive technology.

In addition to forms collecting new hire information, Onboarding (Transitions) also supports e-signature. Forms utilizing e-signature are also compatible with assistive technology.
