Character Encodings

The default character encoding for inbound XML transmissions is UTF-8. However, Transportation and Global Trade Management Cloud can receive transmissions in other encodings.

As per the Transportation and Global Trade Management Cloud Installation guidelines, the database character set must be UTF-8 which means that all the characters, irrespective of initial encoding, can be stored in the database.

To accept a different character encoding:-

  1. Specify it in the XML file. For example, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
  2. Save your XML file using that same encoding.
  3. If sending via HTTP post, you will also need to specify the encoding in the HTTP header. You must use the "Content-Type" attribute on the HTTP header to indicate that it's a stream of character data with a given encoding.

Most modern text editors have the capability to save files in various encodings.
