Pattern-based Load Configuration

This page is accessed via Operational Planning > Power Data > Load Configuration > Pattern-based Load Configuration.

Load configuration is invoked as part of the load building/equipment optimization process. Given a set of ship units to be loaded and an equipment group, load configuration decides if the load under consideration is feasible. If it is feasible, it returns the actual weight and volume utilization of each compartment in the equipment. It also returns more detailed information such as loading pattern, loading sequence, stacking layers, and loading rows.

When using pattern-based load configuration, ship units are only placed within the possible patterns when they belong to the same ship unit (i.e., ship unit count is greater than 1). Separate ship units (even if on the same order release) will not be placed within the pattern of other ship units. Also, there is a limitation that OTM does not stack like ship units or units with same diameter. They have to be within the same ship unit to be stacked.

The Load Configuration page allows you to define the way ship units are loaded into equipment. The load configuration you define here needs to be assigned to a Load Configuration Profile (specified on the load configuration setup).

  1. Enter an ID in the Pattern-based Load Configuration ID field.
  2. You must also specify a Loading Pattern ID for a given Ship Unit Specification. When an order with a given ship unit with a specific loading pattern is loaded on an itinerary whose load configuration includes a loading pattern that matches it, that ship unit is loaded according to the load configuration rules defined on this page.
  3. The Maximum Number of Stacking Layers limits the number of ship units that can be stacked on each other when loading.
  4. Use the Maximum Number of Loading Rows field to restrict how many ship units can be loaded across the equipment.

Note: If you leave Maximum Number of Stacking Layers or Maximum Number of Loading Rows blank, then no restrictions apply.

  5. Select the domain in which this configuration will be active from the Domain Name drop-down list.

Parameters

Load configuration is only invoked when the LOAD CONFIG ENGINE TYPE parameter is set. There are several different values depending on the type of loading you want to do.

You can specify the weight and volume thresholds for invoking the load configuration module via the LOAD CONFIG WEIGHT VOLUME THRESHOLD parameter.
