Exchange Rates

Oracle Transportation Management uses exchange rates when calculating cost. You select an exchange rate when you create a rate offering. A default exchange rate record is provided pre-installed. This record (named DEFAULT) is selected automatically when you create a rate offering.

You can override some or all of the default exchange rates. Use the Exchange Rate Manager to select which currencies to convert and use the Currency Rate Manager to define the rate at which they should be calculated.

Exchange rates are reciprocal, meaning Oracle Transportation Management will calculate the rate in both directions for a given exchange rate. For example, if you create an exchange rate for USD to NOK, then you do not have to create another for NOK to USD. That is done automatically.

There is a SmartLink at the top of the page that displays finder results for all related currency exchange rates.

There are currency properties that can be defined. The following properties can also be defined for currencies:

Note: If a currency is missing from a set of date exchange rates, Oracle Transportation Management looks for previous rates.

Note: The CSV records in the CURRENCY_EXCHNAGE_RATE.csv are provided as samples and must not be used for currency conversions. You must load your own exchange rates using the CSV or Exchange Rate Inbound transmissions.

Adding an Exchange Rate

  1. Enter a unique identifier in the Exchange Rate ID field.
  2. Select a Domain Name from the drop-down list.
  3. Enter the Max Precision for the exchange rate. Max precision limits the amount of digits for the whole and fractional part when using the exchange rate. The total number of digits is split variably between the whole and the fractional part of the exchange rate. If you leave the field empty, the precision is assumed to be 38 digits.
  4. Enter the amount of Fractional Digits allowed for the exchange rate. The Fractional Digits field limits the amount of digits for the fractional part when using the exchange rate. The European Union, for example, standardizes all currency calculations to six significant figures.

Note: You can select maximum precision and fractional digit options on this page, or specify them individually for each exchange rate on the Currency Exchange Rates Manager.

  5. Select the Override check box to search the default exchange rate record for all rates not specifically outlined in this record.
  6. Continue to the Currency Exchange Rates Manager page to enter the exact exchange rates and select an effective date.

Note: This exchange rate remains effective until another rate is created or this record is deleted.
