Shipment Management

Interim Points

The Interim Point Option defined on the leg indicates how to insert the interim points of this leg into shipments that are built on this leg. The interim point logic is designed either for domestic shipments (all stops in the same country), or simple two-country international shipments (shipment goes from one country to another, and not back again).

The possible Interim Point Options are:

  • ALL:
    • For domestic shipments, all the interim points will be inserted between the last pickup stop and first delivery stop.
    • For the international shipments, if any interim point is in neither the shipment source country nor the shipment destination location, then no interim point will be added. Otherwise, all interim points will be added in between the first pair of stops where the country code has changed.
  • ALL BEFORE DELIVERY :
    • All interim points will be inserted between the last pickup stop and first delivery stop on the shipment (for both domestic and international shipments).
  • BEST:
    • For domestic shipments, only the best interim point will be inserted between the last pickup stop and the first delivery stop
    • For international shipments, international shipments, only interim point locations in either the shipment source country or the shipment destination location will be relevant. From among these relevant interim points, the best interim point will be added in between the first pair of stops where the country code has changed. If no such interim point exists, then no interim point will be added.
    • For either domestic or international shipments, the best interim point is determined by minimizing the additional distance required by inserting the interim point stop.

Interim Point for Pool/Cross-dock Shipment

When there is a pool or cross-dock involved in an itinerary, multiple upstream-downstream shipments will be created for on one leg. For example, an order going through a pool may have a shipment from the source to pool and from the pool to destination. If there are interim points defined for this leg, Oracle Transportation Management inserts the Interim Points as follows:

  • For a consolidation pool, Oracle Transportation Management always inserts the Interim Points into the shipment that is out of the consolidation pool.
  • If an order goes to a deconsolidation pool and then destination, Oracle Transportation Management inserts the Interim Points into the shipment to the consolidation pool.
  • If an order goes though a cross-dock, Interim Points are inserted in the following way:
    • If the cross-dock is inbound biased, insert the Interim Points into the shipment that goes to the cross-dock
    • Otherwise insert the Interim Points into the shipment from cross-dock.
