Shipment Management

Location Transport Handling Unit Capacity

This page is accessed via Shipment Management > Location Manager. From the Roles tab, click New Location Role Profile. In the Location Transport Handling Unit Capacity section, click New.

Use this section to define the transport handling unit capacity for this location/role combination. Thus, you can do more than simply designate a specific transport handling unit by using the page.

For example, ship units being delivered to Location A can have a maximum of 1000 pounds when packed into transport handling unit XYZ. However, the same ship units loaded into transport handling unit ABC can have 2000 pounds. You could also define another transport handling unit whose constraints are based on size rather than weight.

Note: The capabilities related to the Location Transport Handling Unit Capacity are only checked/applicable for the destination location. They are not considered for the source location.

Adding a Location Transport Handling Unit Capacity

Note: The Max Width field (as well as the Max Length and Max Height fields) are different from the Max Weight and Max Volume fields that are used to constrain the ship unit. The Max Width (and Length and Height) are used to check against each packaging unit or packaged item, not the ship unit.

  1. Enter a transport handling unit name in the Transport Handling Unit field.
  2. Enter a value and unit of measurement in the Max Width fields.
  3. Enter a value and unit of measurement in the Max Length fields. See the note in step 2 above.
  4. Enter a value and unit of measurement in the Max Height fields. See the note in step 2 above.
  5. Enter a value and unit of measurement in the Max Weight fields.
  6. Enter a value and unit of measurement in the Max Volume fields.
  7. Select the Fully Layered check box if this location only takes a full-layered ship unit based on the TiHi definition. A full-layered ship unit has no partial layers. For example, you are packing 23 boxes into a given PALLET (THU) and the TiHi specified for the pallet is 6 x 4. Normally, you would pack them onto one pallet with 3 full layers and one partial layer of 5 boxes. However, if you allow only full layers, you would pack only 3 full layers and leave the remaining 5 to pack with other items.

Building a full layered ship unit, when required, would only be honored when a ship unit is building from a single order release line using the AUTO CALC ship unit building method. It will not be honored when ship unit is built from multiple order release lines even when those lines have the same packaged item.

Capacity in Package Reference Units

Use this section to override the package reference unit capacity defined on the transport handling unit.

  1. Enter a Packaging Reference Unit ID.
  2. Enter a Limit Packaging Reference Unit Count. This represents the number of package references units that can fill the usable space in the location. The area of a location may suggest more packaging reference units can fit, but due to the actual dimensions of the packaged reference units, a lower limit may be reached.
  3. Enter a Total Packaging Reference Unit Count. This total represents by volume the amount of packaging reference units that can fill the space. It does not take into account the actual shape and dimensions of the packaging reference unit, but rather how many packaging reference units can fit in the space based on the volume of each packaging reference unit.
  4. Click Save for each capacity in package unit reference units you define.
  5. Click Save.
