Shipment Management

Distance Topic

This page is accessed via Shipment Management > Power Data > Geography > Distance.

Distance is the amount of separation between the two points in a lane. Distance, along with other information, helps determine the cost and time for travelling from one location to another.

You can lookup or estimate the distance between the two points defined by a lane. If you choose lookup, the distance for the lane must be entered in Power Data. If you choose estimate, Oracle Transportation Management determines a distance by measuring the distance between the zip codes or the latitudes and longitudes associated with the points defined by the lane.

Note: The X Lane ID must be entered before a distance record can be created.

Adding a Distance

  1. Enter a unique Lane ID to identify the lane.
  2. Select a Rate Distance ID to indicate the type of distance calculation to be used in creating rates for multi-stop shipments. Oracle Transportation Management uses rate distances to determine the best route for stops based on the distance between the stops on a shipment. Two types of rate distance IDs are available:
    • Lookup: a table of geographic data that the system uses to determine the distance between points.
    • Estimate: determines distances between locations based on the their longitudes and latitudes.
  3. Enter a Value for the distance between the two points in the lane.
  4. Select a Domain Name or accept the current domain.
  5. Click Finished.
