Shipment Management

Special Services for Planning Equipment

The following special services determine what happens when assigning equipment. PICKLOADED and DROPLOADED have corresponding activity codes.

PICKLOADED: If a shipment has this special service code for it's freight pickup stop, this represents the pickup of a pre loaded trailer. If not, then it must be a live-load.

DROPLOADED: At the freight delivery stop represents the drop-off of a loaded trailer, while the absence of this special service means a live-unload.

MOVE EMPTY: Move an empty equipment into/out of the location.

CHECK INVENTORY: Move an empty equipment into/out of the location depending on the location inventory.

These special service codes are on the shipment stop. They can originate from the order release stop, from the order release itself or from the location. The combinations of these special service services codes at the freight pickup and delivery stops will indicate what positioning moves are required. For example, the freight pickup stop special service combinations and implications are as follows:

Special Service

Live-load (no PICKLOADED)

Pre-load (PICKLOADED)

MOVE EMPTY

Bring in an empty equipment and live-load it.

Bring in an empty equipment, drop it, and pick up the pre-loaded freight equipment.

CHECK INVENTORY

If the freight pickup location needs an equipment, bring in an empty; otherwise pick up one at the pickup location. Live-load (This is considered by equipment type; for one type in deficit, the empty would need to be brought in, while for another type in surplus it would be picked up at the pickup location.)

If the freight pickup location needs an equipment, bring in an empty; otherwise do not. Pick up the pre-loaded freight equipment. (This is considered by equipment type; for one type in deficit, an empty would need to be brought in, while for another type in surplus an empty would not be needed.)

No code of this type

Do not bring in an empty equipment. Obtain equipment at freight pickup location and live-load it.

Do not bring in an empty equipment. Simply pick up the pre-loaded freight equipment.

Likewise the freight delivery stop special service combinations and implications are:

Special Service

Live-unload (no DROPLOADED

Drop-loaded (DROPLOADED)

MOVE EMPTY

Live-unload the freight equipment, and take out the empty freight equipment

Drop the freight equipment, and take out another empty equipment.

CHECK INVENTORY

Live-unload the freight equipment. If the freight delivery location has surplus equipment, take out the empty freight equipment; otherwise, do not take out any equipment. (This is considered by equipment type; for one type in deficit, the empty would need to be brought out, while for another type in surplus it would be dropped at the drop location.)

Drop the freight equipment. If the freight delivery location has surplus equipment, take out another empty equipment; otherwise, do not take out any equipment. (This is considered by equipment type; for one type in deficit, an empty would need to be brought out, while for another type in surplus an empty wouldn't be needed.)

No code of this type

Live-unload the freight equipment, but do not move it out

Drop the loaded freight equipment. Do not move out another empty equipment.
