Shipment Management
Merge Shipments - Reuse
This page is accessed via Shipment Management > Shipment Management > Buy Shipments > Actions > Operational Planning > Change Shipment Route > Merge Shipments - Reuse.
This action allows you to merge multiple shipments in a way that they are consolidated into one shipment equipment on the target shipment.
The requisites for this action to work are as follows:
- The target shipment must have one shipment equipment. If the target shipment has multiple shipment equipment, running this action will result in an error.
- All the shipment equipment on the selected shipments must have the same travel path. If you select multiple shipments that have equipment with different travel path, running this action will result in an error.
- The selected shipments must have one pickup and one drop-off stop. If they are on reuse leg, all reuse leg order movements must have the same source and destination location, i.e. no multi-stop shipment will be formed on any reuse leg.
Using this action you can merge shipments on any reuse leg. Other reuse legs are also merged.
If the target shipment has an equipment with compartments, this action may split the shipment ship units into different compartments.
Merging Shipments
- Select the required shipments and run the action.
- Select the target shipment from the Shipment ID drop-down list.
- Click OK.
Note: To select a parameter set or to ignore constraints for processing this action, refer to Planning Criteria.
The process that follows is:
- Oracle Transportation Management uses the shipment equipment on the target shipment and sends all shipment ship units (including the shipment ship units on the target shipment) into container optimization. If the equipment has compartments, the shipment ship units can be split.
- The application uses the target shipment and adds the shipment ship units (derived from the previous step) to its pickup and drop-off stops.
- Combined shipment and combined reuse leg shipments are re-rated using the existing rates on the shipments.
- For deriving the service time:
- If the selected shipments are in reuse leg, the application redrives the shipments from the first reuse leg shipment.
- If the selected shipments are not on reuse leg, the application redrives the shipments from this leg shipment.
- The application checks that all orders/order movements are compatible (time window, commodity, etc).
- If all the selected shipments have the same pickup and drop-off stops, the target shipment retains its arbitrary stops.
