Name of Product: Oracle Warehouse Builder 11.2.x

Last Updated:28-Apr-2011

This VPAT applies to only version 11.2.x. It does not apply to any versions of Oracle Warehouse Builder after this.

Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) offers several interfaces for both updating and viewing information in its repository. For one of these - the Design Client - support for the applicable Section 508 standards is achieved though equivalent facilitation. The Design Client is a highly visual java user interface (UI) that employs editors to display information in different styles and at different levels of detail. Each editor has multiple panes and sometimes multiple tabbed panes where information is displayed in the most appropriate form to support different tasks. Hence graphical information, e.g. relationships between objects, is shown in a highly graphical form, structural information is shown as a tree, textual information is displayed in tables, and so on. As a consequence the full information is not available in a single pane but distributed in a reductionist way across many panes. While it is convenient to move between these panels using a mouse it is difficult to navigate them using a keyboard, and further it is very easy to lose the overall context if the other panels are not viewable. For this reason, OWB provides a Design Browser and a Control Center Browser for accessing the same information rendered in HTML format, as well as a high level scripting language (OMB Plus) where all create / update / retrieve operations can be carried out using single commands; these have been coded to applicable Section 508 standards and provide a functional equivalent to the graphical UI. Creating, updating and linking objects, while difficult to achieve without using a mouse in the graphical UI, are very easy in the scripting language.

The scripting language is the Oracle-recommended method of using the OWB Design Client to build large, production-oriented sites where repeatability, flexibility and scalability are top requirements.

The adminstrator must:

  1. start the repository browser listener at least once ($ORACLE_HOME/owb/bin/win32/startowbbinst.bat or owb/bin/win32/startowbbinst.sh).
  2. stop the browser listener
  3. In owb\j2ee\applications\owbb\WEB-INF add  an element named screenReader
  4. Restart the browser listener.
The information below describes this product's ability to support the applicable U.S. Section 508 standards and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0 Double-A Guidelines, subject to Oracle's interpretation of those standards and the remarks in this document.

Section 1194.21 Software Applications and Operating Systems

Criteria
Supporting Features
Remarks (e.g., definition, equivalent facilitation, scope of support provided)
1194.21(a) When software is designed to run on a system that has a keyboard, product functions shall be executable from a keyboard where the function itself or the result of performing a function can be discerned textually.Product has been developed to conform to this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

This product was tested for:

  • ability to perform functions using the keyboard
  • logical movement of focus

Functions not executable from a keyboard:

Note: All of the following defects have workarounds by using the scripting language.

  • 1. Adding objects to a process flow or expert diagram; e.g. transitions, activity parameters, variables. (Bug 12390994)
  • 2. Navigating around objects in a lineage or impact analysis diagram - also can be achieved using the Design Browser. (Bug 12390995)
  • 3. Navigating around all the panes of an editor, retaining focus in the correct place and exiting the editor, e.g. data rules editor, process flow editor. Also can be achieved using the Design Browser. (Bug 12390997)
  • 4. Navigating around all the tabs of some wizard pages and entering data, e.g. file creation wizard, field properties page.  (Bug 12390998)
  • 5. Navigating into all the fields and tables of some wizard pages and entering data, e.g. dimension creation wizard, level attributes table, also schedule wizard, repeat frequency field. (Bug 12391001)
  • 6. Viewing details of completed deployments and executions - accessing comprehensive information about object deployments and executions can be achieved in the Control Center Browser. (Bug 12391002)
  • 7. Completing information in configuration templates and selecting toolbar buttons with no equivalent menus. (Bug 12391003)
  • 8. Expanding error message display cells - similar to the ellipsis buttons this is a mechanism for expanding the viewable area containing an error message; also can be achieved using the Control Center Browser. (Bug 12391007)
  • 9. Alt+PageDn or Alt+PageUp (Or menus Alt+W->G->g and Alt+W->G->e) are used to switch between tabs of editors like the data object editor. Very occasionally and quite randomly the focus is lost when you use one of these key combinations. Can also be achieved using the Design Browser. (Bug 12391008)
  • 10. Using mnemonic keys in some editors; e.g. Alt+N, Alt+B, Alt+H do not work consistently in Operator Details dialog for Mapping Editor. For Alt+N and Alt+B the letters N and B are entered in the description field and the required navigation does not happen. (Bug 12391010)
