The Oracle Business Intelligence Mobile native application offering provides the ability to discover and consume business intelligence content that has been authored and assembled in Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. It is available as both a universal Apple iOS based mobile application that runs on the Apple iPad and iPhone device delivered through the Apple iTunes store as well as a mobile App for Android available from the Google Play app store. The application provides an easy-to-use, secure, intuitive, and multi-touch, gestural interface for users to access and interact with business intelligence content such as analyses and dashboards. It also allows users to browse a catalog of business intelligence objects, selecting available reports or dashboards and displaying the output of this content on their mobile devices. Users can save Business Intelligence content on their devices for offline viewing as well as share their analysis with other users via email.

The Oracle Business Intelligence Mobile applications do not allow for the creation of content from mobile devices. Business intelligence content is created by other products such as Oracle Business Intelligence Interactive Dashboards, Oracle Business Intelligence Answers and Oracle Scorecard and Strategy Management following which the content is made available thorough mobile applications. Content creators and authors making use of these products must follow the accessibility best practices which can be found in the Accessibility Index of the Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Users Guide.

 

Accessibility can be switched on by enabling the "VoiceOver", "Zoom", or "White on Black" options in the "Accessibility" screen under the "General" settings of the iOS device.

Accessibility options for Android devices can be enabled through the Settings, General, Accessibility options area. Options include Vision, Hearing, Physical and Motion, Recognition, System and Services. The TalkBack and Invert color settings were primarily used as part of the testing for the Oracle Business Intelligence Mobile Application for Android.

The information below describes this product's ability to support the applicable U.S. Section 508 standards and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0 Double-A Guidelines, subject to Oracle's interpretation of those standards and the remarks in this document.

Section 1194.21 Software Applications and Operating Systems

  • Tap gesture to select a control/link. Examples include the different icons on the app's home page, including Options, Alerts, Recent, Favorites, Dashboards, Local, Search, etc...
  • Double-tap gesture to activate the control/link.
  • Selecting a control was recognized by Voice Over and the corresponding text for the control was read out by the device.
  • The Prompts bar on a Dashboard page was tested for VoiceOver support: controls in the prompts bar, including the prompt name, value box, check box, slider low/high value text box, radio group button and the apply button.
  • The basic operations and interactions for the the mobile app including user options available in the app such as selecting settings from withing the running app through the back stage, accessing different menu options in the app (when viewing content or when viewing the different tabs in the app) were tested for accessibility, using voice-over accessibility controls.
  • A blue tooth keyboard connected to the iPad device was also used to test data entry, where available, in the app. The keyboard option provides an additional capability to interact with the device beyond touch or gesture based solutions. The use of a keyboard, a standard option for providing input on mobile devices such as tablets allow for additional options in terms of navigation and access to content.
  • New features in 11.1.1.9 which have mobile specific gestures have been tested. These include freeze headers which uses a swipe gesture for table control and double tap to expand a chart.
  • Incremental features for the mobile HD application that are released continue to integrate accessibility testing as part of the release process. These features include gesture navigation and application setting manipulation.

 

1194.21(b) Applications shall not disrupt or disable activated features of other products that are identified as accessibility features, where those features are developed and documented according to industry standards. Applications also shall not disrupt or disable activated features of any operating system that are identified as accessibility features where the application programming interface for those accessibility features has been documented by the manufacturer of the operating system and is available to the product developer.Product has been developed to conform to this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

1194.21(c) A well-defined on-screen indication of the current focus shall be provided that moves among interactive interface elements as the input focus changes. 1194.21(f) Textual information shall be provided through operating system functions for displaying text. The BI Mobile Applications were tested for:

  • iOS-level color and contrast settings are honored by the product - the "White on Black" option in the iPads Accessibility settings was honored by the application.

1194.21(h) When animation is displayed, the information shall be displayable in at least one non-animated presentation mode at the option of the user.Not Applicable

1194.21(i) Color coding shall not be used as the only means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element.Product has been developed to conform to this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

Color or font-styles are not the only visual means of conveying information in the app. However, the underlying content, like tables and charts may use fonts and/or color to convey information, as is sometimes the case with conditional formats that seek to convey outlier or exceptional information via the use of colors. Also note that the content creator can choose to make use of icons, in addition to or in place of color for conditional formats. Furthermore, a text view component can also be added by the content author to provide explanation for the conditional formats created on the view.

The app does not perform any special steps to transform color or font-style based information when rendering in accessible mode. This capability is expected to be provided by the underlying product - like Answers, Interactive Dashboards, BI Publisher, etc.. Please refer to the VPAT for these respective products for more information on this topic.

1194.21(j) When a product permits a user to adjust color and contrast settings, a variety of color selections capable of producing a range of contrast levels shall be provided.Product has been developed to conform to this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

The product was tested for:

  • The default colors of the app do meet the luminosity contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. This is supported on both Apple iOS and Google Android native shell operations. As color is controlled for the developer of the reporting content there is no guarantee that the luminosity contrast ratios will be maintained for the displayed analytic content. Please use the White on Black accessibility feature on Apple iOS devices and Invert Colors on Android devices as an alternative.
  • Color settings for the base analytic content is controlled via style sheets.
